| 12 Week old won't eat or drink water I posted a forum yesterday about the health of my little guy, and I can't get him to eat, I purchased puppy food and he has no interested what so ever, and I can't even get him to drink water. I thought he may of been scared of the food bowls that I bought him, so I tried using another bowl and he still want drink any water. So I gave him a little milk today and he drank it all up, I know that milk isn't good for him but that's all that he would drink. I also went out tonight and purchase a couple of jars of turkey and gravy baby food and he ate that all up. Is this normal for a 12 week old to have no interest in water at all or even dry kibble? Like I said in my last post, he has a vet appointment on friday and will be talking to his vet about this, In the mean time is there anything else that I could try that would be better for him to drink and eat besides baby food and milk? |

| Hello and welcome to YT. I just read somewhere on another post to put the food and water on a flat surface, like a plate or a bowl lid. That may help. I hope you have Nutrical or some equivalent for low blood sugar. With your baby not eating, I would be extremely worried about him becoming hypoglycemic. I also read that you can feed them a bit of baby food, which it sounds like you did. I would not feed him any more milk unless it is goats milk - I believe that goats milk is better digested than cow milk. I would take some of his kibble and wet it with either water or mix it in with some of the baby food and if he still does not eat off the plate, feed him off your finger. Your baby needs to eat something. Good luck and maybe others will chime in with some other suggestions.

| Boil some chicken and see if he will drink the broth or try pedialyte. No more milk!! That will make him sick!!! Also the boiled chicken will be good or him!! Good luck!

| If he won't take the chicken you can use chicken baby food. And syringe his water if you have to they have to eat and drink. Also keep nutrical available if he goes down you will need it.. Sending prayers your way. If he is not better by morning I would pay a visit to my vet.

| You can smash the puppy food (kibble?) add the baby food and a good amount of water and mix it together for him. Also offer him water in a bowl and off your finger (show him basically) Does this pup have teeth?

| Can you trust the breeder on the age of this baby? Get chicken or lamb baby food....turkey can give them diarrhea....If he eats chicken baby food, that will work until you can get him transitioned onto either on very finely chopped boled chicken mixede in with puppy food, and then onto kibble softened with warm water. Get goats milk for him to drink....cut it with Pedialyte, 50/50, and warm it a little like you would an infant. You can use this to soften the kibble, and you can mix it with the canned puppy food to make it more moist. Offer the milk from a shallow saucer and let him drink as much as he wants to keep him hydrated. Last edited by Yorkiemom1; 02-19-2013 at 04:44 AM. |

| I agree with everyone no milk. I know what's its like when they won't eat you do whatever you can to get them to. I also agree with boiled chicken. Georgie absolutely loves his boiled chicken and he will be 8 in June. He has been getting a chicken tender once a day with his kibble since he was 10 weeks old. It took a little time for him to eat his kibble but he could never resist the chicken. Also, moistening his kibble may help too. Good luck!

| When I brought my first little boy home, I did not know they were supposed to stay with mom until 12 weeks. I brought him home at 6 weeks. I could not get him to eat food or drink water either, but I would give him water from a syringe and when I smashed his food and warmed it up he would eat. If I gave him the kibble or smashed it up and didn't warm it he would refuse to eat it. You can try smashing and warming his food.

| I know you don't have a back history on your little one. So, I recommend what the others are saying...boiled chicken, baby food, you might even try chicken broth soaked kibble. Use a dropper or medicine and give water and pedialyte. Give the nutrical a few times a day. Bottom line is, he MUST eat. It's not a choice. So find something like what is suggested (no high fat stuff) that he will take to and eat.

YT 1000 Club Member | It may be a size issue, Wellness S5 Small Bites worked for me. Maybe a little Cheese, and soak/dip his dry food in that Chicken Broth ! Also, you might check his teeth. Loose or broken, eating may be painful ?

| Just wanted to give everyone an update, Benny has started eating his kibble slowly and drinking some water, but I find that he will drink more if I add the water and some turkey and gravy baby food with it. I think it just may of been a shock of switching to a new house and new owners. He is also playing a lot more and coming around now. |
