I have been asked to consider it, but it'd be a one time thing before neutering him if I did...probably won't happen.

I'm curious...you mentioned on another thread that you have 3 other dogs...so why such concern about the yorkie's size? If the yorkie would be a "challenge" at 6lbs, how do you handle the poodle?

My vet doesn't want me to over feed my babies, but he never recommended that I feed them less so they wouldn't grow. By all means, it isn't healthy for them to be fat, but their "growing" bodies need proper nutrition just like human babies do. Please don't starve him.....he is a growing boy!

I personally don't believe in raising anorexic dogs. Max was 4 pounds at 12 weeks. When I visited the breeder to choose a pup she said "don't pick that one. He's going to be a beast". Without further hesitation I brought home Max. I quadrupled his 12 week weight and he's now a lean 16 pound, floppy eared Yorkie. And like Lisa's dogs, he's off the charts in terms of providing me joy. His legs alone are probably 4 pounds of muscle. At least my back doesn't hurt because I don't have to lean over to pick him up.

Well, at least if we can't find any that made the chart, I don't have to worry about muddling through all the posts to find the one's that did! Heck, let's change this to the fattest Yorkie thread!

Look, I assume you are here because you love your baby!!!! I love Bambi for her personality first and foremost!!!! I put a lot of time into her so she's the sweetie I want in my pup, and I put a lot of work into keeping my girls as clean and health as they can be. I don't want to offend you, but is there a possibility that you might have misunderstood what your vet meant when he/she said "Don't feed him a lot"??? I think the key term here is "A LOT"....meaning don't let him get over-weight / fat??? I work with mistreated children...one case was a toddler that was almost starved to death...I'm talking the organs were shutting down. This child survived but is now brain damaged for life...and it's limbs remind you of a child with rickets. I share this to tell you that is what will happen to your beautiful little man if you withheld food from him. Bambi had and has food & water 24/7...and she grew to the size nature intended. PLEASE love your baby first.

Most of these yorkies aren't "FAT" ~ just bigger.

No yorkie could be At a perfect weight as 4 and 6 pounds. If my 6 pound girl was 4 pounds she would look sickeningly skinny! At 5.8 she starts to look emaciated. Feed to conditioning. What is more important than trying to predict adult weight is learning about body condition score and what is healthy.

Puppies are almost never overweight. At 13 weeks you should be feeding at least 3 times a dayAnd 4lb vs 6lb is 1/3 extra weight. If outting that in human perspective that is like a 150lb person being 100lb. This is not ok. I'm sure your intent is to keep this dog healthy so ignore the weight and feed to condition.

Uust bc yorkies are small does not mean they have to be carried everywhere. Harness and leash, then size won't matter...

ETA: Looks like my dog is bigger than the chart prediction, but she is not and never has been fat.

WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL I can certainly say that my Lizzie who was 11 1/2 pounds was in NO WAY FAT. She was lean not an ounce of fat. She lived to be 15 years old before she passed in 2011.

I like the term fluffy....I use it when describing myself too. OP I have spent almost 8 years (he will be 8 in June) worrying about my little purse dog (who btw doesn't like to be in a purse). While I can understand your interest in how much your furbaby will weigh I assure you his health will outweigh all your other concerns (pun intended).

I posted in a previous thread about what I feed my 4lb Yorkie I hope you saw it.

Lisa's 3.65 pound Sugar is thicker in body mass than my 16 pound Max. Like humans, it's how you carry your weight. Max is very tall, long and lean.
