Glad to hear that Jada is fine and please let us know how her dental cleaning goes next week. Any suggestions you can give for dental hygiene would be greatly appreciated. Cooper is 13 weeks old and I am currently using dental wipes followed by a gel, but if anyone can suggest a better system, I would really appreciate it.

Well per vets instructions the beard is lots shorter now...I did a butcher job on it because I didn't want to stress Jada any more than what she already was..I will even it up on bath day Saturday...she looks like a little pup I actually like it once I get it evened up.

My vet actually recommended a dental rinse today. He wants me to start it after she has her dental next week. I didn't purchase it today and I can't remember the name. I will for sure post it next week when I find out.
He said it works really well, especially for these little mouthed babies (jada has a tiny mouth and the even have a hard time getting to her back molars for cleaning) It is an enzyme wash that you use twice daily. He says it really helps on keeping tartar from forming.
It will be a year in March since Jada's last dental and even with brushingwith a good toothpast (CET) and a water additive she still has horrible tartar.
He likened it to the same as humans..some have good teeth and some have bad no matter what you do
Get Cooper used to brushing while he is young that is key to good dental care.

Did the vet say why she might be doing this?

Sapphire once ate a bunch of her own hair.... I had tried giving her coconut chips which I thought she had chewed up... two days later I find a hair mass/ball... thought it was from a cat. I cut it open and found a stack of coconut chips (think Pringles but smaller) encased inside the mass of hair! It took me about 30 minutes to cut it apart...really weird.

Awww poor little Jada glad the vet got it all and I hope the tooth tightens up. She still looks every cute with her beard cut.

Kathy he didn't say why she does it for sure. She suffers from allergies but we have that pretty much under control with her diet and being very careful what she eats. I think it is boredom during the day or just a habit at this point.
Wow on Sapphire..I bet that scared the crap out of you!! I know finding this hair wound around Jada's tooth scared me to death. I am glad I found it today and that I have an amazing vet who knows how I get spastic over everthing and worked us in first thing this morning.

Thanks Taylor..Jada lost her middle canines on the bottom last year..I hope the tooth tightens up too but I am assuming since those two middle teeth are gone it is going to be an uphill battle on keeping all of her bottom front teeth now. I don't think her teeth were brushed at all the first 2 1/2 years of her life, before we adopted her

Thanks Patti, so was I!! I knew I had to get her in today..I was so afraid of infection already starting..thank goodness it hadn't, but our vet put her on Clindamyacin, and we scheduled her dental for next week..she would have been put on it for a couple of days before dental anyway.
Annual dentals are so important..especially if you have a baby who is prone to bad teeth, no matter what you do to care for them.

Awww, poor Jada. I'm so glad you do regular maintenance and found that though before it got any more infected. Jada is gorgeous no matter what style of hair cut she sports.

My Moka also chews on her beard hair and sometimes has a foul odor despite having very clean white teeth. Guess what I am inspecting closer? For her its a nervous habit. I'll try to take the little piece out of her mouth, and she'll turn right back around and have it back in there. It's like a pacifier to her. Silly girls.

I used coconut oil on my own tooth that came loose one weekend. It stopped the pain and prevented infection, and the tooth tightened back up by the next weekend. Maybe it would work for her?

Was it Biotene? That's what we use.

Aw I am praying for you and our sweet Jada. I feel for you. Don't beat yourself up too much, things can and do happen. We learn and keep going. My Vet once told me, "Teresa, stop feeling awful when something happens. You can't protect the Yorkies from life ! Stuff happens and when it does, you bring them in. I wish my life was a happy and pampered as theirs !" I still worry and feel guilty when stuff happens. But my Vet is 100% right !
My Gracie girl has had so many dental and other face problems. Her mouth is very tiny too. I have to use a long thing that looks like a Q-tip to brush her teeth.

Wow!! I am just now seeing this. I'm amazed at how much she got stuck in there. I will keep an eye on Mandie's for sure now.

Please let us know when you buy what the Vet recommended and what it is. If he says it works so well for little mouths, I'm all over that!

Jada is gorgeous with or without a long beard. Boy was she pizzed at you in that first pic LOL

Shelly I really think Jada's is habit too at this point. I noticed her mouth had a smell the other day, but just chalked it up to my not brushing as often since I had been sick. I will be doing close inspections from here on out.
The hair I was able to get out of her mouth was so foul smelling. I almost lost it..from smell and stress of it even being there in the first place.

Kathy...thanks so much for that piece of advice. I supplement with coconut oil and she loves it...going now to put a dab on that tooth!!!
