I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | ![]() Hi, and welcome to Yorkietalk. Unless you can take him out of of his crate every couple of hours, I would not try crate training, it actually can cause the reverse effect, they learn to go in their crates, and you don't want this. I started crate training when Joey was 12 weeks old, and every couple of hours he would wake me up and I placed him on a pee pad. He got a treat then back in his crate. I kept it next to the bed so that I could hear him. If you don't want to wake up every few hours, keep him in an x-pen were he has a bed and the rest of the floor is covered with pee pads, gradually you can use fewer pee pads.

| ![]() OK, thank u for the advice. I cannot keep the crate in my room. After we got our baby, we found out my boyfriend is allergic to dogs! ![]() |

| ![]() Hi again. I think your answer is to NOT use a crate. Especially if you can't take him out every couple of hours. He's just way too young to "hold it". Get an xpen, as Nancy mentioned. This will give ample room for a bed, food, water, toys, and pee pads. How often is he shaking? Is there a pattern to when he's shaking? If you aren't sure, try to keep notes for a day or two and see. If he's cold and won't wear a tshirt or sweater, then he can use a blanket on his bed. If he's not cold, he may just need some comforting. BUT, if it's pain..you'll need to know that and noting any patterns of when it happens (like when peeing or around that time), will help narrow it down.
