Hi, and welcome to Yorkietalk. Unless you can take him out of of his crate every couple of hours, I would not try crate training, it actually can cause the reverse effect, they learn to go in their crates, and you don't want this. I started crate training when Joey was 12 weeks old, and every couple of hours he would wake me up and I placed him on a pee pad. He got a treat then back in his crate. I kept it next to the bed so that I could hear him. If you don't want to wake up every few hours, keep him in an x-pen were he has a bed and the rest of the floor is covered with pee pads, gradually you can use fewer pee pads.
