| Himalayan Salt Lamps.... upon a thread search i only found one from 2008...anybody use one? and have any feedback? Himalayan Salt Lamps _Negative Ions SweatingAccording to Denise Mann, a writer for Webmd.com, "negative ions are odorless, tasteless and invisible molecules that we inhale in abundance in certain environments. Think mountains, waterfalls and beaches. Mann writes that these negative ions produce positive biochemical reactions that can increase serotonin levels. This helps alleviate depression, relieve stress and boost energy levels. Himalayan salt produces negative ions because it comes from an environment rich in dry iron. This kind of environment is able to kill the harmful bacteria and microbes that are found in other salts. Himalayan salt is beneficial to patients who suffer from chronic illness of the bronchial system or allergies. Unrefined Because Himalayan salt is not chemically refined, it is completely pure. It contains all of its original natural minerals. It has been said that replacing ordinary table salt with Himalayan salt can reduce edema in the body tissue, as well as reduce the formation of cellulite. Salt Lamps Pierce J. Howard, Ph.D., and author of "The Owner's Manual for the Brain: Everyday Applications from Mind Brain Research," states on WebMD that ionizers "may protect against germs in the air, resulting in decreased irritation due to inhaling various particles that make you sneeze, cough or have a throat irritation." Himalayan salt lamps act as ionizers in the home. When a salt lamp heats up, it absorbs any moisture that is inside the salt. This causes the lamp to be warm on the inside and damp on the surface. This contrasts works together to build an ion field. The lamp then releases negative ions into the air. Placement The Salt Cellar recommends that Himalayan salt lamp ionizers should be placed anywhere serenity is desired. Bedrooms, living rooms, offices and hallways are all good choices. Lamps should also be placed near electronic devices to reduce electromagnetic pollution. Himalayan salt is hydrophilic (loves water!). As a result it will 'sweat' when the humidity reaches around 70% or more. The best way to keep your lamp dry is to keep it on all of the time. The warmth generated by the bulb will keep the lamp from sweating (be sure to use a 15w bulb). If you must keep the lamp off be sure to put a small dish or saucer under it to collect any water. (Our thanks to Janet Q. for reminding us to offer this tip!)

| First I have ever heard of this type of lamp, very intriguing. I would be interested also in hearing if anyone has tried this or currently uses and if it works.

| Dr. Oz recommened Dr. Oz recommended the salt lamp as well as a Himalayan salt inhaler on his show this week for allergies and congestion. Having researched these before, I decided to order one after hearing him recommend them. I ordered one from Walmart for $20.00 with free shipping to my nearest store. For that price, I figure it will be well worth trying one. I'll be back to update and review it once I receive it and give it a try. BTW it has a five star review out of 100 reviews. Purchase the Himalayan Iconic Natural Salt Lamp for less at Walmart.com. Save money. Live better.

| I do not have salt lamps but I know people who do and swear by them. I only use Himalaya salt for food, however, and I LOVE IT! Not only is it tasty, it is very salty and you need only teensy amounts. If you put too much on, say popcorn, unlike chemical salt...sodium chloride...you can still eat it because it still tastes good and does not make you feel wicked thirsty the way chemical salt does. Now for the kicker...lol...I found, after eating overly chemical salted restaurant food and experiencing the 'water balloon belly yet unquenchable thirst'...I 'hate' that feeling...that a 'tip of my little finger' sized bit of Himalaya salt completely eliminated that horrible thirst. DH did not believe me, but tried it anyway. Guess what? It worked for him, too. Not sure how it works for everybody else, but I definitely am a big fan!

| I use pink Himalayan salt for all of our cooking also. I will never go back to regular iodized salt. I thank Lisa (sugarmamma) for telling me salt is not just salt. My brother told me several months ago about the salt lamps. I never ordered one, I'm interested to see how you all like it and if it works. My DH and I are both allergy sufferers.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I've had a little salt lamp in our bedroom for a couple years. I don't notice a health benefit, but I absolutely *adore* the soft, orange glow this lamp creates - it's SO alluring! I love soft, glowy lighting - so this kind of ambient lighting is right up my ally. I have it on a timer so that's it's always on from like 8am-9pm....its glow is pretty whether during the day or night. I got mine on ebay or amazon for about $12; it's a small one - about 8 in high and 4" wide or so.

| I hate to be a Debbie Downer but I recently looked up a hoax that had Dr Oz's name attached to it and it was absolutely scathing about him. He used to be respected and respectable but has sold out and takes cuts from any item he recommends. Most of them do not work. The salt lamp you are talking about may or may not be one of those hypes but I would look into it before I purchased it. I'm just sayin. |

| My husband and I purchased two salt lamps from Mashall's HomeGoods. They were $16.00 each. We haven't noticed any health benefits, but they are pretty and soothing to look at. |
