| New puppy wanted Hi, I was hoping someone could help with answering a question. I have a 1 neutered male Yorkie. I feel he needs some Yorkie companionship. He is 3 years old. I am thinking about getting another Yorkie. My first choice is to get a female puppy as it would seem they would get along better. My dilemma is should I get a male or female puppy? There are so many male puppies available. And barely any females. If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate hearing your input and your writing in. Thanks |

| welcome to yt! i would take your 3 year old to meet any new puppy you were thinking of bringing in to see how they may get along. i have one male and two females......and they get along very well. im not sure cedric would like another male coming into the mix....but meet and greet would be how i would decide.

| I ended up getting a female (golden) Yorkie companion for Brody, but I first tried to adopt a (solid white) male Yorkie/Maltie mix...and would have tried to get a male parti Yorkie if he'd been a little closer. It just worked out the way it worked out...lol All I was really looking for was similar size, age, energy level and personality...with preference to Yorkie or Yorkie mix. I'd have taken just about any little fur baby as long as Brody also chose that companion...and, yes, he met Mia when we did and they got along perfectly and still do!

| Thanks to all of you for your helpful advice. I believe I have found an excellent AKC Yorkshire Terrier Breeder in my area. Hopefully, in time I will be able to get a female puppy from her. Thanks |

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | We went through sort of the same situation. I felt Katie Scarlett, my Yorkie needed companionship. Even though I am a stay at home wife, I just thought she needed that canine buddy. I wanted to get another Yorkie, but my husband was adamantly against it. He just did not think we were ready. Well, I happened to be on PetFinder one day and found this beautiful Maltese. I wanted to adopt her so bad, but still my husband just was not for it. So I called my Mom. I knew she wanted a companion too, and she adopted Mollie. Now we live with my parents. They have the downstairs of the house and we have the upstairs. And let me tell you, Mollie and Katie Scarlett ADORE one another! They want to be together all the time! They play all the time and I really do believe they are both happier having each other. So now I am a strongly in favor of having 2 in the household, or more, for companionship with one another. In our case, 2 girls were perfect! If we didn't have 2 girls, I think we would have 2 boys.

| Check out your local rescues. I would definitely take your pup to meet any dog you plan on adding to your family. It is important that he likes his new sibling.
