| Welcome. Glad to read you are keeping the puppy. It will take some work, but there's no reason the puppy and your family can't work this out. |

| Most of us here have made the same mistakes as you...I didn't even know to look up the breed, heck we bought Miss Mini cuz she was cute, only after getting her home did we find out she would always be small etc., I had never heard of a Yorkie, puppymill, broker etc., before my sweet Mini. In retrospect I wouldn't change a thing, little puppies, babies, kittens they are fragile regardless of skin or fur, I had 25 puppies (black Labs) in 3 litters and both my children were small....all 25 puppies survived their manhandling! When pups get older they learn to stay out of the way just as we adjust and watch out for them, there will always be accidents, just the other night I nearly fell over Mini as she yelped so loudly in fear....neither of us suffered injuries. Take adequate measures to insure the safety of the pup at all times, she is part of your family and in due time all will co-exist.

| I definitely think you made a commitment and you need to stick with it. Children can be taught that small dogs are not toys and learn to respect them. I don't believe that dogs should be rehomed for the convenience of their owners... They are family members too and deserve that respect. Would you rehome your baby because your older children could potentially hurt him? Why is this acceptable with pets?

Puppy Max/My Kids/ and my wife and I would be better off if Max were to go to another safer home. Maybe a home without small children, maybe a home with elderly people who don't move around so fast. But thanks to this site and the Vet who visited our home 2 nights ago we feel a lot better. we've gotten such positive advice. thank you all so much! right now i want to print all this out- make some notes and ask questions about our future. there's goldmines of info in these replies. i need to sort them out. thanks again and Happy New year! youll all be hearing my questions soon enough. LOL! Can I feed him anything special to make sure he grows as BIG and STRONG as possible? | |

| YT Addict | I would definitely get the x-pen. Keep him in it along with his bed, food & water and a pee pad. I like the washable ones myself. Then you don't have to worry about him chewing on it and choking on the plastic when you're not there to supervise. I would make a rule that no one is allowed to take him out of the pen without adult supervision. Yes, buying from a breeder would have been the best way to go but I wouldn't give up on him just because he's a pet store pup. I had a Shih Tzu who lived 15 years with little problems and she came from a pet store. I would read as many threads on this site as you can. It's been very helpful for me and I'm not new to yorkies. Good luck and enjoy your little Max!

| I am happy to hear that you are keeping him! Yorkie and kids are doable with the right precautions! Plus...you have all the awesome people on this site prepared to answer your questions as they come up. It was a high learning curve when I got my first yorkie Lola. I was debating...do I use my extra money to move or do I buy this cute little pipsqueak I saw on internet that would be perfect for dressing up....I shudder now when I look back at my decision making...I knew just a bit about puppymills (not enough) nothing about yorkies and what problems they could have and nothing about buying a puppy on internet nor vets who were more for the money then the best interest of the dog! So don't feel alone! Im pretty good with them now...thanks to a lot of research a great vet and reading posts on here! Good luck with everything...please post pics and updates!!! |

| Just a quick look at wherewe've been keeping Max since we got him. (While we aren’t playing with him) I’m feeding him Dick VanPatten's Natural Balance® L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Diets® Lamb Meal &Brown Rice Small Breed Bites™ Dry Formula. About three teaspoon’s at a time andthe food and water tray stay in his pen at all times. He barely eats though if heeats one of the three teaspoons we are lucky. Is that normal? I worry. If I put a piece of the dryfood in my hand or fingers I can get him to eat one at a time but that’s alittle tedious. We also have Natural Balance®Ultra Premium Beef /or Lamb or Liver Canned Formula and I mix in a teaspoon ofthat and he seems to like it better but we worry about diarrhea. We try to give him vitaminpaste 2-3 times daily too. How do we get him to eatmore? Does the pen look right? |

| Your setup looks great! Lucky pup. I hope one of the experts on here rerpond to the quantity of good. If you have ANY question about him not eating enough, give the vet a quick ring. It's always safe to give a bit of Supplical or Caro syrup to make sure the babe doesn't get low blood sugar. That is one of the biggest worries at this young age. The little bugger found a great home!!!! |

| Eating seems to be a common problem with these little ones. When I first got Wallee he would only eat if I scrambled the food. I got him a treat ball and he now eats kibble out of that. |

| I missed where you decided to keep the pup. Xpena are great but if you have kids that play ball or airplanes like we do here a wire mesh kennel is what we use they have a solid plastic bottom that slides out fir easy cleaning. I have 3 dogs Elvis our Yorkie, Princess our Miniature Schnauzer and Scoobers our schnorkie a mix of the two breeds. We have 3 kids here 13, 8, almost 2, and another one on the way. It can work, but all our dogs are over 10 pounds.
