I would definitely get the x-pen. Keep him in it along with his bed, food & water and a pee pad. I like the washable ones myself. Then you don't have to worry about him chewing on it and choking on the plastic when you're not there to supervise. I would make a rule that no one is allowed to take him out of the pen without adult supervision. Yes, buying from a breeder would have been the best way to go but I wouldn't give up on him just because he's a pet store pup. I had a Shih Tzu who lived 15 years with little problems and she came from a pet store. I would read as many threads on this site as you can. It's been very helpful for me and I'm not new to yorkies.
