Ok so then it's a behavior thing? Sebi has never bitten hard but, he has always been an extremely hyper little guy and I've had the HARDEST time potty training him..does that have anything to do with it?

Well the mommy socializes them more. I asked my breeder if I could leave my puppy with the mom for an additional month because she told me she would be ready at 8 weeks. As much as I want her sooner, it's better for them. They learn skills from their mom, brothers and sisters that they don't learn from humans. I don't have other dogs with me so I am depending on her mommy to teach her doggy etiquette

Wow, Breny, it's amazing (and sad) how clueless some people are. To want to take a pup -- any pup, let alone a toy breed -- way before it's weaned is mindboggling.

I am not bashing people but I think we all love our dogs so why not do what is proven best for them and get them at 12 weeks. One thing about posting is you can't read the tone and such of how stuff if said. Most breeders who allow there puppies to go home before 12 weeks skip steps like genetic testing and stuff and that is very important as anyone who has a pup or dog they have had to watch live with a painful genetic illness its sad to not check for genetic illness and possibly have a pup born that is just going to spend there whole life suffering. Also if they are not keeping the pup until 12 weeks that means they are not part of The Yorkshire Terrier Club of America and that is important to me because they know the breed VERY well and what is best for the breed.

Moms wean when the pups start getting those sharp teeth, and this varies, but this isn't only about weaning. I'm glad Breny you are trying to educate these puppy buyers that this isn't in the best interest of the dog. I think I would tell them that they probably will find a breeder willing to sell them a dog at too young of an age, but they should run in the opposite direction.

The Mom is getting spayed not the puppy.

To clarify just a bit - Yorkies should NEVER EVER leave home before 12 weeks. I hope Breny is able to educate the boyfriend and he "sees the light".

Since it appears or at least feels as if people are out to start a war against me because of my $550.00 purchase of my little AKC girl born 11/19/12 and I pick up 1/14/13 I will just say that I have seen both mom and dad's AKC papers and records for health I will just say that ONE of the names on this list is who I am purchasing her from...

I'm sorry you feel like people are against you, I was trying to share why waiting longer is important for the wellbeing of the dogs. I certainly didn’t want you to feel attacked for your choice. While I support the YTCA, I do not believe that all members are breeding for the right reasons, and truthfully, it would bother me more if a YTCA member sold a dog before the recommended minimum of 12 weeks, than a non-member. The reason is that they have agreed to abide by the ethics and code of conduct of the club, and they obviously are ignoring this rule, it makes me wonder what other shortcuts they take.
