| We are new so this is our story! Hello guys, I'm so glad that this Forum exists and I found it randomly on Google. I'm Lia and my Yorkies name is Goofy! I have him for almost 2 months now. He is 4 years old and he changed 4 families... The first owner was pregnant so she gave him to the second family (she had him for almost 2,5 years) they had a restaurant and he was at the backyard eatting the remainings all day, he ended up being a huge yorkie 13,5 pounds so when she saw him like that she got him back to give him to someone better (I believe they even hit him). The third family was nice but they had a huge dog and as you know yorkies are big dogs into small bodies so he would sneak out and attack the big dog all the time til the big dog grabbed his face... My mom knew that family so when she found out that he was bitten by the big dog she just went there and took him away(the family wanted that too). He has a mark in his little eye from the bite. So I went back to my moms home and took him with me. At first he was very scared. He would bite anyone anytime about anything. He was affraid of everything... noises people kids everything. He bit me and my boyfriend many times. We were reading all day what we could do better. We vaccinated him as he had never been to the vet for almost 2 years. He is eatting a very nice type of food. We bought him, toys and beds and pillow... We are trying the best. He is now 10pounds and trying. Tho he is still attacking. We are not sure why... My boyfriend might be cuddling him or touching and he will all of a sudden bite, we just dont know why. He still has trusting issues, we know and we will work on it and give him lots of love as he is such a cute dog when he is not affraid. He is ok with me but he has an issue with men. Oh and one last thing, he will sit and look at me and nug all the time. Even if he just ate and came back from his walk. Just dont know what he wants. Sorry for the big story, we just would appreciate anything you could tell us, any information! Thank you! Glad to be around good dog owners! |

| Welcome to YT! Keep building trust with him. 4 years of being mistreated is going to take time to undo. From what you said, it's getting better, less biting is always good. That's a sign your both doing the right things if you ask me

| Welcome to YT! That poor baby has been through it. . Four different families has to be rough. I'm sure he does have trusting issues. Once he knows that you are going to love him and not mistreat him I'm sure it will get better. My Mikki hated men because of her past. Now she is my husbands dog! Be patient with him. You may even have to look at some training. Right now I would just love him and let him know he has his new furever home! I am so glad you have him!

Yes we looked for a trainer but we thought it was too much for him, to put him in that situation. We wanted him to relax a little bit. At first he wouldnt even let me put on his leash, bath him or even touch him. Now he lets me bath him but no way to comb him. We are working with treats on everything but carefull not to over do it. Thank you!

| You have a lot to deal with in this little guy. He has had an awful life full of awful people. Yes, he does have trust issues. You might want to be careful in handling him. He could have old injuries that are causing him pain that he cannot tell you about. Take things very slowing with him. He has a lot of baggage he is carrying. There is a website called Dog Star Daily that has some very good training articles on it and also some video. They have quite a bit of information about dealing with rescue or problem dogs. I agree he is not ready to go to any kind of obedience training in public. If you could find a good animal behavior specialist it could be helpful. There is a section here on dealing with puppy mill dogs. You dog has gone through some of the same stress as a puppy mill dog does so reading that may give you some tips. Look in the "sticky" areas. |

This is great information....I also want to welcome you to YT...and I just have to add, please do NOT get your face down close to his mouth....you are just not sure what makes him bite and you do NOT want to get a bite to the face! Be patient with this poor baby....he has had a horrible life up to now...youhave a whole lot of trauma, hate, cruelness, and neglect to undo, on a poor little soul that was born sweet and just wanting someone to love him as much as he loves you....be patient and he will come around....

| Welcome to YT. We have a wonderful library on many subjects. It would be good if you read some of the posts about rescue dogs. We are so glad you found us. Happy Thanksgiving.
