YorkieTalk Newbie! | New Yorkie Mommy Well not only is this my first puppy I am also a first time dog owner. I have read a bunch of stuff on line and did a lot of "homework" for the last 3 months on Yorkies. I currently am starting a business from home after quiting a very stressful job 6 months ago so I have lots of time for my new baby. My husband bought Tigger for me last week & things are going really well. Potty training on puppy pad and crate training. Even gave him his first bath. My question right now is that Tigger wants to lick me. First it was my toes and fingers now he wants to lick any bare skin when I hold him. I notice that he is more likely to try this when he is tired and I am loving him before I put him down for a nap. Why is he doing this and is it ok? I have been discouraging it. |

| Yeah quite a few of us have lickers. My Brandi is not really a licker but she will have those periods where all she wants to do is lick me usually when she is tired as well. Some people discourage, others don't. I personally will only allow Brandi to lick me on my nose. I have seen some of things she has tried to eaten like kitty treats (hint:cat poop). I've see her even eat the cat's vomit and then wants a kiss from me. Also want to add that licking can be their way of letting you know that something is physically wrong with them. You have to know the difference. When Brandi does excessive licking along with pacing, I pay attention. It usually means something is wrong. If you know your little one's quirks, it will be easy to tell the difference between "Im hurting licking" and "Im just tired licking" Ewwwwwwwwwww Last edited by yavenay; 11-01-2012 at 03:49 PM. |

| Whether you allow any licking or not is up to you but either way you should teach her an, "all done," "no more," or no lick" command.
