I looked at your site and could not see the Dr.Millers Nutra Drops....I did see some NutraDrops....are they from Dr.Millers www.animalwellness.net??? I did not recognize the bottle! I just did not want the OP to get a different drop, thinking it was specifically what I was promoting. Dr.Miller is a nationally recognized holistic vet, member of Veterinary Botanical Medical Association, and his drops were developed following a 15 year evidenced based research study/project.

I understand YorkieMom...sorry was just trying to be of help as I am also in South Africa. Its so heartbreaking to see the little tots struggle.....thankfully most breeders only let the puppies go at 10+ weeks here but sadly we have quite a few just in it for the money. Praying all goes well for you.Kindest Regards

I guess I don't understand why breeders there sell their tiny puppies at 6 to 8 weeks of age when they know the pups are prone to get hypoglycemic. They are obviously breeding for tiny dogs and realize the dangers that a tiny puppy faces. Why don't they just hold the pups until they are bigger and stronger?

There was a recent thread here about tiny puppies not getting their teeth in as soon as other puppies would. Isn't that just another problem for a tiny pup to face while struggling to adept to it's new life and surroundings? Why not wait 4 more weeks until the pups are on a solid footing and able to deal with the stress? Do they need that money so desperately?

I would think that many new owners would not be able to give their new puppies 24 hours care in order to save their lives if their blood sugar went too low. Seems like bad business to me. Are all breeders of small Yorkies like this where you are?

Anyway, I understand all you mean, from an owner point of view.
Being a 3rd generation of breeders I can tell you that just the home change is enough change to make a tiny yorkie stressed. Somehow, the continued medication for the full 9 days stabilizes the fecal form. I would avoid giving the sugar, it is only gonna make your problems worse as you mentioned yourself, she may become a diabetic.
I have raised so many tynies ! I have it on my blood lines.
You do what you think it is better of course. But you need to get this puppy stable as fast as you can. Rest, excellent food ( source of stable energy ).
And i would re-peat the meds.
understand different cultures and how they work. Not every single puppy stresses out, but because some do, i hold mine with a deposit until they are ready to go home at 12 weeks or soo... easy transition.
Well, wish you all the best and hopefully we will hear good news soon !

Hi..Thank you once again for your advice. I had Hollee at the vet on Monday this week for her 2nd vacs. She seemed to have turned the corner from Fri eating her Kibble herself. But when I weighed her at the vet she hadn't put on any weight in two weeks (six stools a day..I wonder why) So my vet said no to rabies just yet and just did her other vacs & started her on flagyl. Which she is still on & will finish on Mon next week. From the next day her stools stablised to two a day & by Fri she had put on 100gms. But yesterday I made her chicken with a little rice & she ate it greedily. I had some food made for her which she wouldn't eat so I offered it to our older dog & little Hollee dived for that too! then she did that again today and seemes to have doubled her size. Now she is walking around with a humped back and tail down and just wanting to curl up and sleep. I phoned our emergency vet just now & she said she is feeling uncomfortable from over eating & cramps from the rice..Oh dear..the vet said to syringe a/d diet into her (2mls) which I did and am waiting for a while. I will give her another 2mls later depending on how she reacts as she hasnt had a good meal since lunch time & just bits since then. Any help on this would be so appriciated. Ax

Hi..Thank you once again for your advice. Lovely to hear you have visted our beautiful country ..I had Hollee at the vet on Monday this week for her 2nd shots. She is 11wks. She seemed to have turned the corner from Fri eating her Kibble herself. But when I weighed her at the vet she hadn't put on any weight in two weeks (six stools a day..I wonder why) So my vet said no to rabies just yet and just did her other shots & started her on flagyl. But yesterday I made her chicken with a little rice & she ate it greedily. I had some food made for her (a/d soft diet) which she wouldn't eat so I offered it to our older dog & little Hollee dived for that too! then she did that again today and seemes to have doubled her size. Now she is walking around with a humped back and tail down and just wanting to curl up and sleep. Hi..I did give Hollee chicken yesterday with a little rice & she couldn't get enough & tucked into a second helping meant for our older dog. Then today she did that agian ..now she is unhappy hunched up & tail down. I am so worried. I rang our emergency vet & she said she is uncomfortable and probally cramping due to over eating and the rice. So I gave her some glucose as she hadn't eaten again for some time. (Vet said) syringe some a/d diet into her and am waiting to see how she responds? have you had any experience in this? Ax

Hi ..as far as I know Yes. Everyone I know got there's at 8wks. One lady got her's at 6wks because she requested it so young and that little puppy has been fine. As far as I know a breeder will only keep puppies longer if she wants to watch for a show puppy for herself. My breeder said she likes to have her pup's out in new homes befor the next litter arraives. Ax

Hi, I do not check YT very day and missed your question, but all you describe makes sense after the flagyl... As you could see she needed it. How is she doing today? Rice will cause constipation now with the more normal GI working more efficiently. That may be the reason she is a little down and depressed. A/d will not harm her and my advise is to keep her on a/d and dry kibble a only. Stop the other home made recipes if she is eating these 2 foods. A/d alone is enough to keep up a puppy until it can transition back to dry kibble only.
Let us know any updates, e-mail me when you see this answer, I will send it to you as a private message . But you saw great sign of her turning. It will get better.
Xoxo

Hi my husband fed her chicken & rice twice more and she just couldn't get enough. Fed on this there is clearly no eating problem and she seems to have doubled her size in length anyway. No sugar drops either.Stools normal & firm. But I will feed her the a/d diet today and will also take her for a weigh in. Will keep in touch. Ax

Hi..thank you so much for asking. She is so much better. And we have come to know her a lot better now. She has put on weight finally and grown so much in front of our eyes. She kills for chicken & rice & I think this is spoiling her as I would love her to be eating her kibble which she has gone back to playing with. She eats about 4 or 5 at a push when offered them. And most of the time that is playing with them. But after having the drops in glucose and not eating to eating like Miss Piggy ..is good to see.

Oh dear..I'm sure we will get there. Now I just have to find a way of getting her onto kibble.Ax
