| Hello! Hi all, Haven't posted in a while. Nursing school has been keeping me busy. I just went to the photo gallery and posted a few more new but old pics of Caesar and Cleo. I will be glad when school is over so I can start back talking here again. Hope all is well with everyone. My 2 are just getting bigger and more rotten. Christie |

| I am in awe of nurses..I think they are the real care givers and doctors can be such egomaniacs! My H is a doctor (dentist) and I know some great ones but I have great respect for nurses! |

| I am going for my RN. I took a Pharmacology final today and have a final Thursday. Then I am out till Jan. 9th. I will have 4-8 week courses left after this semester. It has been the hardest, most stressful thing I have ever done in my life. But I know it will be well worth it in the end. Talk more next week. and hopefully send more pics of the brats. Gotta go cook dinner. Christie |

| Hi LoveBug - I completely understand about nursing school - I'm an RN and I teach nursing too!!! It is very hard and very stressful - what people don't realize is that nurses have to know about everything!!! RN's get a generalist degree and as such, they have to understand pathology and pharmacology for the entire body at every age - that in itself is quite a task. Then they have to learn about psychology, public health, pediatrics, maternity and so forth. It is quite rigorous! When a nurse goes back for his/her master's or doctoral degree, they get to specialize in one area, but that first RN degree is a whole lot of everything! Good luck - it is definitely worth all the hard work.

| Thanks for the encouragement. I never thought much about it as well until I started classes. Very true and I am glad that people are starting to understand this. It helps with being appreciated. I think Drs are starting to understand this a little more as well. What are you teaching? What dept did you work in as an RN? How many years? What did you like the most? Do you still work as an RN? When I worked in the hospital I worked in ICU/CCU I've been out of school since 1974 and I worked for 4 years fulltime and then started teaching (after I got my masters). I taught and worked parttime in the hospital for another 12 years. Finally, I got my doctorate and I have been teaching and doing research (no hospital work) for the past 12 years. I consider my research with persons with Alzheimer's disease and their family cargivers as my clinical practice. I absolutely love nursing and can't imagine doing anything else. I liked working in the hospital but I loved having students in the hospital. Now, I love working with my research and the doctoral students and their research projects.

| Wow! you have really fulfilled your life with caring and giving. Hopefully I will be able to do the same. I am 34 so I don't think I have waited too late to start such a rewarding career. This semester was my second clinical experience and I know it only gets better and it has already been so rewarding I can't wait to experience the rest. I got to visit the OR & PACU this semester. I have always been interested in the OR but I really found the PACU interesting. I think I will keep the PACU in mind. I really liked that you get to see so many people in one day but yet you are giving each patient your undivided attention. Thanks for sharing. Christie |

| Oh no, you haven't waited too late at all! In fact, your timing is perfect, you know exactly what you want to do and are making several sacrifices to do it now later in life! Guess what! PACU was my first job, right out of school. I really loved it. You are right, it was so interesting and I learned so much about so many different things. The only thing that I grew to miss was the relationships with the patients. You take care of them for a bit, then they are gone. So, I transferred to ICU/CCU because I loved getting to know the patients. As I mentioned, I eventually specialized in gerontology because I really loved caring for older folks. You will find your niche - and the wonderful thing about nurisng is that there are so many niches! You can work in the hospital, in a clinic, in a school, in a business (I worked as an occupational health nurse for a bit), in hospice, and you can work with children, adults, babies - you can work with people who are healthy or those who have chronic illnesses - or those who are at the end of thier life. There's just a zillion things that you can do as a nurse. It's always interesting!!!
