| I've seen wonderful males and females. We prefer female dogs and have had better luck with females over the years. We had trouble dealing with males lifting their leg on stuff in the house. Maybe we just don't have the patience for them to get fully trained and grow out of that. I don't think I'll ever own another male dog for that reason alone. We love our girls and will always own female dogs.

| Get both. I would have to say, w/girls you can do their hair, dress them up...but you can do that to boys too. My boys are such cuddle monkeys...my girls, not so much, but they do get jealous! So if I'm kissing Momo, the girls will gang up on me & vie for my attention. Princess will scratch me & do handstands like a capuchin monkey (she also luvs tummy rubs!) & Mimi will rub herself on my leg or something, she's a rubber loll. I do love them all, but I have to side w/the boys! Plus, I've noticed that Mimi LOVES my dad, he's her person...but the boys don't seem to side w/ any one particular person, they love everyone...but it probably has a lot to do w/their individual personalities too. I'm lucky, my boys don't mark (knock on wood!). It really helps to have a water bottle or something they can use as an indoor fire hydrant. I have water bottles wrapped in pee paper on top of their pee pad, propped against the wall. I also have the pee pad partially going up the wall to protect it. The bottle keeps them from peeing on the wall. I also have their designated pee areas in the restrooms, they know that's where we ALL go wee wee lolll!

But yeah I'm a boy dog person, all the way. I think it's just a matter of preference.

| ♥Love My 3 Furrbutts♥ Donating Member | I have both...Orion is driving me crazy with the marking everything in the house...including his sister! Yes he is neutered! I have to replace my couch bc of this mark monster! Yes he is a cuddle bug and I love him to death, But that is the one reason I wouldn't get another male. Jersey is due to come home next week...I am so hoping she gets along with Miss Prissy Girly Girl Raelle...lol! I know that didn't really help, JMO...no more boys for me. I love the girls.

| I have both, Brody and Mia. Both were 2 years old in March...six days apart in age. Both were over one year old when I got them. Both are altered. Neither marks as a general rule outside, but Mia pees more in a 'marking type' tinkle than Brody...but not very often does she do that. Neither marks inside the house. Brody does NOT 'lift a leg'...and not OUTSIDE either..he does a little pseudo squatty position to pee and he's very neat as is Mia. In fact, I have had lots of dogs over the years and I have NEVER had a dog that marked INSIDE the house. My family growing up had dogs, male and female, all unaltered, all stray or rescued, and none of them marked. We rescued a Yorkie-Poo as a tiny, lost puppy, who became MY dog...his choice...and in the 12 or so years he was with me, he was unaltered and NEVER marked inside nor even outside that was noticeable. I had a Doxy-Poo...he was unaltered, and he NEVER marked. I had many Shep/Labs, male and female, and they never marked, unaltered or after they were altered. As to dressing them up, I dressed my Yorkie-Poo or warmth, and Brody and Mia, my Yorkies, LOVE to get dressed up...they love their clothes. Brody never wore clothes at his first owner's house. Mia's first owner dressed her but told me Mia didn't like it and that she "won't wear a top knot." Well, she DOES wear clothes AND a top knot. So does Brody. Brody may not wear ruffled dresses, but he's got some doggone cute little boy doggie clothes. He will actually 'reject' girl clothes...or anything he's seen Mia wear...and he won't let me put one of the 'unisex' sweater on Mia that he's worn...it's HIS!' ![]() Personality wise, I have found males to be generally a bit more 'docile'...baby-like...not barking UNTIL the females 'stir the pot' and rake them over the coals for not speaking up, but I've also seen them 'correct' the females as to the 'necessity' of barking. The females seem a bit more 'decisive' and perhaps more 'in charge' but none of my dogs, large or small, male or female were ever willing to NOT defend Mommy. They have all been sweet and loving as could be regardless of size...and completely devoted, and snuggly, too. I've never 'shopped' for a dog or puppy...I've never purchased a dog unless you count 'adoption' fees at the Humane Society, etc., as a 'purchase' price. I've never gone in search of a specific sex in a pet dog. I've also NEVER been disappointed in any of the strays, ferals, re-homes, rescues, or adoptions I've ever had...canine or feline. All have been wonderful babies regardless of their backgrounds. I can understand 'shopping' (and I mean 'shopping' in the nicest way possible...I feel it is important to be well informed and discretionary with ALL acquisitions, i.e., when "shopping" for anything) for a specific sex for breeding purposes, but I am not a breeder. For a pet, if I was to 'shop' for a dog, I'd choose the dog FOR 'the' dog...not for the 'sex' of the dog, or the 'perception' of what the 'sex' is supposed to be like. There are, IMHO, always nuance 'advantages and disadvantages' to both sexes as well as nuance personality traits that manifest, but I have seen those (the ones that come to mind) in BOTH sexes...but not ALL of ANY sex. Of course, if you're looking just to buy ruffled doggie dresses, a female probably is your better option. ![]() Good luck in your search...whatever you decide. I hope you find the pup that BELONGS with you!

| I had a male Shih Tzu that was the sweetest little guy in the world. When I decided to get another dog after my Shih Tzu passed away at age 15 I wanted a dog that would be different and not remind me of him. So I decided on a female and I wanted one that was not even close in color. Gracie is a dream come true, now. The first year we had some difficulties but I think it was more her terrier personality than the fact that she was a female. She is the sweetest and funniest little thing I have ever had. Would not trade her for the world. |
