Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | Removing Baby Teeth? Have any of you guys been through this with your babies? Katie Scarlett has 2 baby teeth that never came out. It is her two sharper canines on the top. The adult ones came in right next to them. I keep her teeth brushed but food does get caught in between the baby teeth and the adult teeth. She has an appointment this Wednesday morning for them to be removed and they said if she needed it, they would go ahead and do her dental while she was under. I did tell them I wanted the pre-op done. I know I read where so many YT'ers told how important that is. I am to take up all food at 6 pm on Tuesday night, but water is ok. Does anyone know the recovery time on this? What can I expect after? I dread her having to be put under again (she only has been once with her spay surgery) but I also do not want her to have tooth/gum issues if it can be prevented. I'm already nervous!!!

| Sending prayers for Little Katie. Laddy lost his on his own but looks like we may be going through the same thing with Kyra. She hasn't been spayed yet as we are hoping she will gain a little more by the time she is 1 and the vet says the teeth should be fine till then. Hoping and praying all goes well for Katie.

Max Main's Mamma Donating YT Member | It is very nerve racking to think about such a tiny thing being under anesthesia! My little guy had 6 teeth taken out during his neuter. I was very worried and hated seeing how weird he felt after. Max never had to eat soft food or had any problems with his mouth after his teeth were pulled. I am sure it will go well for your girl. Best of wishes!

| They put Nia under for her teeth cleaning. She came around by the next day, I took pictures of her and tried to give her time to get herself together, she mainly slept when she got home. She has the same two teeth still in her mouth now, I just didnt get it done because I thought of how it hurts when we get our teeth pulled so I told them to leave them alone. |

| My moms rescue Sammy had a dental and had 4 teeth removed and he was fine the next day although my mom was spoiling him with canned food for a few days . She will be ok. The pre op blood is very important. I will keep her in my prayers and make sure you let us know how it goes.

| Toki had her 2 upper canines removed a month or so ago. Honestly she probably could have had regular kibble the night she came back but I gave her soft food anyway and kept chews away from her for a few days. The day after surgery, you could see little lines where they removed the teeth but she ate kibble just fine the following day. Good luck! Katie Scarlett will be just fine! |

| cedric has his removed during his neuter and he was fine like nothing ever happened. i think he was more irritated by the baby and adult teeth being in one slot and was relieved afterwards. good luck ks i will keep you in my prayers for a safe procedure and a fast recovery.

| KS will be fine. I know how scary this is because Rily and Minnie Mia both had to have baby teeth removed. Rily had the same two as KS and Minnie Mia had a total of twelve. She had two full rows...upper and lower front teeth. My vet did hers at the same time he spayed her because she was so small and he didn't want to put her to sleep twice. I was a wreck, but both of my pups did fine. Even with having that many removed, MM was eating her dry food the next day. I did spoil her a bit with wet food the first day because I was worried about her blood sugar dropping. It is kinda ironic because Saydee didn't have this problem and now she is the one with an under bite. I will be thinking and praying for you two sweet girls today.

| Bebe retained FOUR baby teeth, all the canines, and got food stuck between like you said. My vet said the best thing to do is remove that food daily until you're ready to remove them. My vet told me I could wait until she needed a cleaning, as long as a removed that stuck food every day and kept them brushed (which is dumb because if you keep your dog's teeth brushed you won't need them cleaned lol). Well a couple months ago I bought her a large chewy bone, I think it was by nylabone. And within a couple days of chewing on it, she lost three of her four retained teeth! The last one is in there good, there seems to be a tiny adult tooth next to it and the baby one looks to be the main tooth there. So I'm leaving it alone. But I can't believe at almost two years old she lost her retained baby teeth lol! Edit: Oh, I forgot to mention that my little 3lb poodle just had 13 teeth removed in febuary (I rescued her, her teeth are not my fault). She has four left lol, but she was eating canned food the next day.

| Retained baby teeth is a very common occurance in Yorkies. It's actually rare if they don't retain them! Normally, they are removed during the spay or neuter (when it was common practice to have that done later rather than sooner, lol). Recovery time should be quicker than when she was spayed, as it doesn't take as long to do so she won't be under anesthesia for as long. Teeth that are left in are breeding grounds for infection and tooth decay. Your vet will give you instructions on feeding her when she is discharged from the hospital, usually dependant on the work done on her mouth. Hopefully he won't find any surprises while he's doing the procedure. Best of Luck... Katie Scarlett is always in my prayers....

| Miss Priss has 2 of her baby teeth also. My vet said that I could wait until she needed a cleaning as long as I brushed her teeth and kept a check on them..I was hoping they would come out on their own, so she may be going through this too. Keeping you both in my prayers and I think KS will do fine since she won't be under long...(((HUGS)))

| Aww poor sweet KS!! She will be fine, Peanut the drama Queen he is acted like nothing even happened to him when I picked him up. I got him neutered pretty young, I believe he was 4 months, so I wasn't able to get his puppy teeth out. He got his puppy teeth out when he was about 6 months.. He did great! I picked him up and you would have never known what just happened to him!! I'll be thinking good thoughts and sending prayers for KS. Once it is over you will be thanking yourself! It is a good idea to get those teeth out!!

| I held off on the spay for both of mine until the teething looked to be almost done (thank you Yorkie Talk info!) Ziva had 7 removed that were not budging and Abby just had the top two canines that were very tight (Abby played a lot more tug games)You could not tell the next day where the teeth were removed. The gums just tightened around the correct teeth. Ziva actually was more comfortable eating without the double set! |
