As for your question about food, Taste of the Wild is manufactured by a company named Diamond, and they have a nasty history of recalls, recently they recalled ALL (I think) their food due to a salmonella concern.

I was feeding my yorkie, Luma, Taste of the Wild high prairie puppy, Bison & venison, at the time of the recalls, and I decided to switch to Fromm Gold puppy. You should look into other brands, if you go to the health and diet section of Yorkietalk there are tons of great threads there discussing different food options. Taste of the wild IS a great brand of food, but there are lots more, and I don't trust anything by Diamond anymore.

frankly after reading this post and now Realizing that you are a vet tech completely throws me for a loop. LOL I thought you were an ER tech in a human hospital. I would surely hope a vet tech at my vet's office would know more about dog food and if the parent was a yorkie or a silkie. You might be a great person that is helping a puppy that was bred by accident but I am sorry you come off sounding like a person that knows very litttle about dogs.

you would think a vet tech would know this type of stuff, it's sad because I ask my vet tech a lot of questions, after reading this thread I think I will stop doing that because we at YT clearly know more than the OP/vet tech on this this thread does on many of the issues involving our pups

Cute puppy! I think GOT is referring to Game of Thrones the series, is that where you got the name? Khaleesi is a character from the series. Awesome show btw.

ABout TASTE OF THE WILD, it was a voluntary recall, due to a concern of samenlla posioning, it did not hit every state in the U.S. I did do some research on this because of concern ,I feed my two TOTW and in California their was no threat of recall.
The op says she is a vet tech, but Still I would be very concerned taing such a young puppy to work with me in a vet hospital where sick animals come and go all the time. Where is the puppy going to stay? How is the OP going to protect the puppy against other sick animals? My vet even told me his own dog contracted Parvo. His dog pulled through, but it is still places any dog owner with a young pup in a dangerous enviroment, when it comes to viruses , working at a vet hospital or not. So , be careful, with this tiny, new puppy.

Taste of the Wild is still a diamond done food and I have read many many bad things about diamond in general and how bad there plants are and would never ever feed a diamond food whether I was on the other side of the united states or not. And voluntary or not is was making dogs sick.

The puppy is cute. It is fun to guess what they will look like, when they are a mix. The adult dog looks like a Yorkie to me. It would be better if the puppy could stay with the mom longer, but since that is not an option you will have to be extra attentive.

ADOPTING A PUPPY UNDER 12 Weeks old

Congratulations on your new Puppy. A Yorkie puppy should stay with his mother until he is about 12 weeks old. If Your puppy is younger, you have a premature puppy in a way. You will have to be his mommy and teach him like she would.
1. Umbilical Tethering
Is a wonderful way to bond with your puppy and keep him safe. Hook a leash to his harness and put the other end on your wrist. He will feel secure, he can see you, smell you, and hear your heart beat and breathing. When he is not hooked to you he should be safe in his crate or play pen. You should resist the urge to carry your puppy around. This is a human instinct for human babies. Doggie babies need to walk and learn to follow the leader. Walking is much better for them, it makes their muscles strong and teaches them to look to you for directions. They learn by watching and doing what the leader does.
2. Potty Prep
The mother dog begins to push the puppies out of the nest area to potty at 4 weeks, at 6 weeks they follow her to the potty place and copy her behavior. So you have to pick a place and take your baby about every 2 hours during the day. They really do not know they can hold urine, when they feel the urge to pee they pee. When they are 8 to 10 weeks old, they begin to understand they can wait a few minutes, you can begin true potty training. Always praise if they potty in the right place. Potty breaks should be short. Say your cue word ' POTTY NOW' give him 3 to 5 minutes to potty. If he goes, praise 'Good Potty' pet and maybe reward with off the leash play time in a fenced yard. You are teaching him potty first, then sniff and play is ok.

LOL I don't mean to write my book here. But puppy training is my passion. Everything they learn the first 24 weeks of life forms their basic outlook on life. So it is so important to set up a good foundation of training and social behavior.
