| What kind of 'stinky'? Have you had the vet look at him? There are some skin conditions that can make them smell bad.

| My little Kipper was stinky when I first brought him home. His ears are what were stinky and the vet put some drops in them and I used Q-tips to clean out the crud and now he doesn't smell anymore. Have you checked his little bed where he sleeps? I wash my puppy's bed about once a week, just to make sure he always smells nice. Does he have any teeth coming in? Someone mentioned that teething can cause foul odor from the mouth. I will be interested if you find out what it is. I know that some friends from a long time ago had a Yorkie and it always had greasy hair and smelled bad. It sounds like you are keeping yours clean, so it might be a health issue or something he is finding to roll in or sleep on.... |

| what type of odor and where is is coming from, I had a puppy once that came with a yeast infection in his ears, it had a bad odor and it took me a while to figure out where the smell was coming from. I think the vet even missed it or he had not yet been. Also some dogs especially males lick them selves a lot after peeing that could case his face to smell, I had an indoor yorkie that wet a lot on papers and I was always washing his face. Once a week bath is what I always did, so I am surprized that at 13 weeks he would smell so bad, I think something might be wrong. I am assuming you have taken him to the vet.

| you might want to take him to the vet when he is at his stinky best, so the vet might be able to identify the smell.

| seborrhea there is lots of stuff on this condition on the web. I have had yokies for over 20 years and this is the first I have heard about it, it is also another reason why I love YT, learn something new all the time. To the OP I would read up about this and discuss it with your vet.

| When Austin was a puppy he would be stinky too a few days after a bath. It was as if I never washed him. Come to find out, as soon as he got neutered, all the stench want away. Supposedly it was his testestorone level..hmm

| Anna, do you feed a grain free kibble? If not, you may want to consider it. Sometimes yeast will give a pup a musty, not so clean smell.

| Your puppy should not be stinky. He should not have any crud in his ears. If he has brown stuff in the ears that would probably be caused by either ear mites or a fungus infection. Fungus infections do stink and it needs a special kind of drops to get rid of it. Keep the ears dry and be careful not to get water in them when bathing. Sometimes food can cause a stench to come out through the skin.Make sure you are feeding a good quality food. Since your puppy is so young I would assume he is not completely potty trained. Is he kept in a kennel? Is he near where he potties? If he is having to step in the area where he is peeing and pooing it is going to make at least his feet stink if not his whole body. One other possibility is that you might be using a shampoo with sulfates it it. Many commercial shampoos (even puppy shampoos) use sulfates to create bubbles. They actually strip the natural oils from the skin and coat. This causes the skin to over produce oil after a bath. That can cause the dog to look oily and become smelly after just a short time after the bath. I hope you can find what the cause of this odor is because you certainly should not have a stinky dog. |
