| Flea & tick Medication? Non-toxic ones Hi I was looking to change my puppy's Flea/tick medication. I have been using Frontline because I was told it was less harsh on small dogs. The only problem is that often he will have a flea infestation for a day or so. I called Frontline and they said this is normal if you take your dog out often where other dogs/animals are. This is because Frontline DOES NOT repel fleas, it only kills them. It also takes up to 18 hours for the fleas to die. Anyways I'd like a medication that Kills adult/eggs, Repels, AND takes care of mosquitos. A bonus would be one that you all would recommend for a 9 month old puppy only 5 lbs Am I asking for too much to get something that both works and is not to "harsh"? |

| Hi, We were having an awful time with ticks here for the last 2 years. Not so much fleas though. I have used frontline on my dogs in the past. Although, I was never fond of the idea. The chemicals wig me out as much as the fleas and ticks. I went in search of a natural product that was safe and effective. I found a spray for the dogs made by Vets Best. The dogs hated it. It has a strong smell of cloves. I then discovered that Vets Best makes a spray for the yard, that seems to be made from the same ingredients as the pet spray. We used that over our entire backyard. My hope was that if we treated the yard, I could avoid putting anything on the dogs. I have to say, we have noticed a huge difference! I was pulling ticks off the dogs left and right. Finding ticks inside the house even, which really freaked me out!! But since applying this stuff about a month ago, I only found 1 tick in that time frame. Even while using frontline, I'd still find ticks on the dogs. We are going to re-apply to the yard this weekend. Sorry this is long winded! Hope it helps! |

| Frontline does not work here at all and we have a big tick problem so I use advantix and it works great.

| Well we don't have much tick problems here in sunny southern California. I was mainly concerned about fleas Also I was wondering about experiences with different heart worm meds or the meds that have Heartworm, Flea and Tick All in One? |

| The stuff by Vets Best kills fleas and ticks. I just can't personally attest to its effectiveness with fleas since I haven't seen any here. It claims to kill mosquitoes on contact, though that wouldn't be enough to protect against heartworms. I'm not aware of an all in one medication, that would be convenient! |

| I've been searching for a lawn spray that kills chiggers because two of my Yorkies are scratching themselves crazy. I found a natural spray. What I didn't know is that many animals (and humans) are allergic to cedar oil. Four of my five were throwing up. Since then I have learned that most natural sprays have cedar oil in them. Cinnamon oil and eucalyptus are also common ingredients used in natural sprays and may cause allergic reactions. I finally bought some spray from a high-end pet store that had been used by the employees themselves. So far so good. A comment on flea preventatives. I was not aware that Revolution could cause neurological issues until one of my Yorkies developed whole body twitches. It's been 2 months now since I stopped applying Revolution and there has been a drastic change. I have switched to Advantage and Interceptor. The jury is still out. Just seems like it's always a guessing game as to what to use. One pet might tolerate it and the next one won't. ~Joanne~

| Advantix is the only thing that works here -- ticks are terrible. It can't be used on cats though, or near them, as it's toxic to them. But unfortunately it's the only thing that works for us. I try to separate it out though, and don't give it every month.

| I don't treat Gracie for ticks because we don't go in the infested areas. I use Advantage II and I have used that brand for years without any problem. There is a thing called Diatomaceous Earth that is an all natural product. It's a very interesting product in that it can be given internally and it works externally as well. It is a powder so you have to be careful it is not inhaled just like any other powder. I have heard that it is great for treating your house and yard for bugs of all kinds. People even take it internally but I'm not sure why. You can read up on it on the internet. As an external product you have to apply it to your pet every couple days. It is also fairly inexpensive. |

de is a great product. Make sure you buy the "food grade" product. You can use it for internal and external parasites. You can even buy a duster for distrubuting throughout your home for fleas and other critters... Yes , people use it as well. I am one of them.. All humans carry parasites in their bodies just like animals do. This is a great website to buy the product and read up on the many uses for and instuctions on how to use it. This is where i buy mine... http://wolfcreekranch1.tripod.com/ Last edited by MY OSCAR; 07-04-2012 at 03:34 AM.

Yes , i give it too my dogs and cats. It gives you the dosage on the website. For the cats i just mix it with a their can food. For the dogs i just mix in the kibble.. It doesn't have any taste really just a little gritty..
