| New Puppy!! I am the happy mama of a 9 week old little girl "Prissy Lou"...We picked her up yesterday. She has had 2 rounds of shots and has been dewormed twice as well. I will be taking her for her wellness check with the vet tomorow. My question is with her eating habits. They were feeding her Hills Science, so I am continuing with that, but Im not sure she is eating enough. She ate a little yesterday afternoon and then ate good last night. I figured she would be ready to eat this morning, she ate a little but I wasnt sure it was enough. (I had a friend that her yorkie had alot of trouble with hypoglycimia so I am really wary of that) How much (quantity) do you guys feed your new babies? Prissy weighs right at a pound...Thanks and glad to be here!! |

i know that most recommend that with one that tiny you leave food out at all times. also have some nutrical on hand just in case. maybe once a day you could just give her a little dab and let her lick it off the end of your finger. you are smart to keep her on the same diet as the breeder. changing diet in one so small and young could cause problems. nice to meet you and have fun with your new baby

i think as long as her food is out she will eat when she is hungry. just keep an eye on how much food is left at the end of the day.. nutrical you can find in petsmart/petco and yes you can also use karo syrup if you need to..

| Hello and welcome, I have a Miss Prissy too, it sounds like she is doing ok and since they are so little it doesn't take much to fill their little tummies. Looking forward to pics of her.

| Even my yorkie (5 mos) doesn't eat a tremendous amount of food each day. I make sure she eats a.m. and p.m. though. Lucy poops & pees every day and she's very lively - so I know she's getting enough. Just watch your baby closely. If she's nibbling at the food bowl and she poops/pees, then she'll be OK. My breeder explained to me that you have to make sure she eats though. You don't want her to NOT eat. Little yorkies can get used to NOT EATING - especially when they come into a new environment. So try to watch her closely for a little while to make sure she goes to the bowl. Also, watch her temperment. Yorkie puppies should want to play, eat and rest (don't be surprised if she sleeps a lot!!) If your baby becomes listless and doesn't want to play or eat at all, then I'd get her checked out. Best wishes with your new baby!! Tracey |

| I will definantly keep a close eye on her eating today...I had to sit with her this morning while she ate, so I will be doing that until she gets used to everything. She is playing really well and is peeing and pooping ok and is sleeping alot more today than yesterday...I dont think she wanted to miss anything yesterday......Thanks so much!! |

| I think you're doing fine. Oh and gratz on your new baby. Our Yorkie is a light eater as well. We've gotten to where we feed him in the morning and pick it up in about an hour. When we eat lunch, he gets another hour. Then same at dinner. If he doesn't eat, he doesn't eat. But generally the next morning, he devours much of his breakfast. |

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | Wanted to say Welcome to YT! Congrats on your new addition. Our Katie Scarlett isn't a big eater either. When we first brought her home I made sure to keep nutrical near by just in case. She never needed it thank goodness, but you never know. We kept her on what the breeder had her own which was Royal Canin but now we feed Fromm. I have to get it at a specialty store but she loves it. She also adores fresh fruits and veggies as treats. We give small bites at a time here and there of cantaloupe, watermelon, fresh pineapple, celery, green beans, carrots, lettuce, sweet potato, etc. She would prefer that any day over store bought treats. She also loves little bits of cheese and a spoon of plain Greek yogurt. We tried the Cheerios and the gerber graduates puffs in sweet potato when she was younger but she never took to either of those.

| Welcome to YT! I free feed my boy, who was a bit under a pound at 8 weeks. But because of their tiny size, I would also make sure he ate. I would "make" him eat by adding tasty stuff like a little boiled chicken, so he got more excited to eat more. At that size, I think thats the main prioroty. Good luck with the new one

| Hello and congrats on your new baby! I was worried about Jackson too when I brought him home (he is 9 weeks now) and I gave him a dab of Nutrical morning and evening. He seems to be eating fine so I have cut that back to once daily. I will probably continue this until he is 3 months old. I dont know if it helps with hypoglycemia but I didnt want to take any chances! We have an appt with the vet in a few days and Im going to ask about this. |

| I am in York, SC...I mixed about 1/2 teaspoon of wet food in with her dry food today and she has eaten much better, but I also sat with her to keep her attention on her food. She goes to the vet in the morning and I am going to get her the nutrical to have on hand...She found her bark this afternoon which was the cutest thing!! |
