| Yorkies in the Hospital ICU Recently, Mother had a heart attack at 2:00 AM. I put my Yorkie, and my Dad, who has Alzheimer's, in the car for the hour drive as she was medivaced to a hospital in another town. It was a hot day and I could not leave my dog in the car. I explained to the hospital staff that I would like to bring my small dog into the ICU as my Dad had alzheimers and I was afraid they would both get lost. They were in the car. I lucked out, and they let me bring her in. Has anyone else been able to do this? I fear this is going to happen again. I really don't have anyone near that I trust to keep Sadie. My thinking is that I may have to just keep her at home, even over night, and leave water and food out. She won't use pee pads, so I guess I would have to deal with the mess when I got home. She has never had an accident in the house, except for vomiting. I know I got lucky being able to take my dog into the ICU, and the next time it will be different. Have any of you taken your pet into the ICU, and do you have any advice or tips for me? Many thanks. Kate

| I think you did luck out, mostly the staff will not let you bring in your dog, they are fussy about even kids, the two legged kind, most ICU's won't even let in a service dog except on a case by case basis. If I were you I'd be prepared to have to leave her or find a "sitter". So sorry about your Mom hope your Mom can do rehab close to you, that way you can bring your Dad and your dog, your dog will help in her rehab and general cheering up, not to mention you Dad when he is having a good day. This is a lot for you to handle, prayers for patience and lots of love to you.

| I'm so sorry about your mom. I'll pray for her. That is amazing they let you take in Sadie. I'm sure they made an exception realizing you do have your hands full. Try checking into a sitter so you will be more prepared in the event it happens again and none of us ever know when that may occur.

| Yes, you DID luck out! Dont count on that happening again, especially if anyone in the waiting room saw you....trust me, they will either report it or try to do the same thig and it will create a HUGE problem....I am an ICU nurse and have been in the middle of just such a mess! You need to make arrangements for your little dog.... |

| It is hard to believe they let you take your dog in the hospital much less ICU. Please leave your dog home. You would not want to arrive at ICU or any part of the hospital and not be able to take proper care of your pet. |

| I'm sorry to hear about your Mom, hope she will be okay The hospitals here are very strict and wouldn't even allow my skin kids in the ICU, no one under 12 is allowed. Might be time to start advertising for a dogsitter.

| Thanks everyone. My neighbor lady said she would care for her, but leave her in her crate so she is familiar with her surroundings to some degree. I cannot bear to leave her in that crate 24/7. I am so protective of this little living dust mop that I just don't trust her with anyone else. So, my brother and his wife live two hours away, and they would be very much involved if my Mom gets ill again. They are huge dog people, and his wife would stay here to take care of lil bit. At least I have a game plan now. Appreciate all of your prayers too. Kate

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I'm so glad you were able to come up with a plan to care for Sadie in an emergency situation. I will keep you all in my prayers. I've been there with 2 parents in failing health at the same time and it is very stressful.
