| No bark collar My female barks at everything! I have tried everything to stop her and now she is two yrs old. I even took her to Pet Smart classes. Are the vibrating collars cruel? I don't know what to do? |

| I don't know that they are cruel or meant to be cruel; however, I feel that anything attached unwillingly to any living breathing person or animal intentionally to cause discomfort, in any form, for reasons other than the health and welfare of the living and breathing person or animal is cruel. You need additional professional training and an all out pact with yourself to get to the root of this behavior, your baby is helpless...

| Tried the Pet Smart trainer and discussed my problem with no success of the training. I have a male that hardly barks. My female barks anytime anyone goes in or out or anytime my husband get's out of a chair. I tried spraying her with water or making loud noises. She respects me shaking a newspaper at her. We take her camping and she even jumps on dash of RV barking at people. I tell her quiet, no bark but means nothing. She barks when I go out and acts at times like she would bite me. She has just started to growl at grandkids and tries to nip them if they get near me. I need help? I love my dogs! I spoke with Pet Smart trainer just now and she said no shock collar but I could try the vibrating one with no harm to her. She said she might not pay any attention to it if she isn't a more timid dog. I know it would scare my male but my female has showed no fear to anything. Even big dogs she goes after. |

| the vibrating no bark collar is completely harmless. i bought one for my airedale, i tested it on wrist first. it feels exactly the vibration on a cell or a beeper just a bit stronger. the problem is , it works perfect for awhile . Then the dog just gets used to the feeling and barks anyway. Lol |

| Found out most vets say not to use them for dogs under 15 lbs. The box even says over 8 lbs so give that ideal up. The trainer is suppose to call me so maybe she can help. Think part of my problem is getting another yorkie has made her really jealous. Then the rest of the problem is I have spoiled her. Just got to find something to stop her barking? |

| The people that petsmart hire as "trainers" are not professional trainers. The fact that she is trying to sell you a collar to train the dog should tell you something. Maybe you could look for a real trainer in your area? Take her to a real obedience class (not at pet smart.) She needs some serious training starting with sit, stay, down. She needs to start to learn to listen to you and she is not going to do that without proper training. |

yep, from what I read she shows the symptoms of an alpha...meaning she thinks she is leading the pack, not you. You have to train her, to make her understand that you are the leader... | |

| I dont have this problem but a friend at work did and she tried this with success. She put several pennies in a tin can and when her baby started barking she would shake the can and it make a terrible noise I guess it gets their attention and makes them stop the bad behavior. My friend said it worked great. I dont like the idea of any collar but especially one that would vibrate or something like that. their little necks are so fragile.

| I'd be slightly wary of the pennies in the can method - there have been several threads on here where the Littlies have been frightened out of their little bodies with it all.... The way I trained Harry to stop barking was to take one of his favourite Kong Squeaker Balls, and hide it about my person (like a magician!! ). When he started barking at an 'inappropriate' time, I would give one long squeezy squeak on it (like it was in it's death-throes) and he would stop in his tracks and immediately come to find it - all barking forgotten It might be the wrong way to teach him - but it certainly worked! Good luck! Sally + Harry x |
