| Oversized yorkie My yorkie is a purebred. He is 3 years old and weighs 12 pounds! I seem to think that it is pretty normal for yorkies to be over the average weight. I just want to know if is something that I am doing wrong though. Could I have stopped him from turning out so big? Either way, I love him for who he is and the bigger...the more to love! I would really appreciate any advice and i am new to posting things! Thank you! |

His mum was approx his size when we viewed him, dad slightly smaller both pedigree kennel club (uk) registered so we knew he would be fairly big. I think they call his size teapot sized |

| My late Lizzie was a bigger girl. She was 11-11 1/2 pounds. She lived to be almost 15 years old. I loved her that way.

| there are a lot of larger yorkies here and most of them seem to be more healthy that the micro mini little ones. There is nothing you could have done to keep him from growing in size, weight however is a differnt matter. If your vet feels 12 lbs is an ideal weight for your dog than you have done nothing wrong. LOL however if your dog is like me and should be 12' tall for his weight than I guess you should try to take a little off him.

| oversized yorkie both of my yorkies are bigger. Bandit is 10 pounds and he came from a reputable breeder and its funny because his mom was 4.5 lbs and his dad was 4 lbs. Sassy who is rescued from a puppy mill is 15 lbs. I love both of them that size because they seem to have less health issues. |

| My boy is 16lbs. He just kept growing and growing. He was 5lbs when I got him at 9 weeks old and I thought he was SOOO tiny. I was pretty ignorant and had NO idea that was the typical standard for an ADULT yorkie. lol. Well at least under 7lbs. I personally LOVE his size. Of course I love the smaller guys too but I don't think I'll ever own a dog under 10lbs. Even at 16lbs, I sometimes worry about his small size, I can't imagine the worry I'd have with a 5lb dog. But he's very sturdy and able to handle a lot (with kids, bigger dogs, etc). And he's in great shape.

Part of me does wonder if it's the better quality food we give them (including today's people food). My skin son turned out bigger than I expected too, he's almost a whole foot taller than me! I do love how healthy and active ZoE is though and she has no problem keeping up on long walks. For my skin son, he comes in pretty handy too, as he can change lightbulbs in ceiling fixtures without me having to drag out a ladder

| Suzi was 3 lbs at 9 weeks old when I first brought her home to live with us, she was very small, she could fit into our hands. She maintained a weight of 7Lbs for a while, but, I thought she felt too thin, even thugh the standard weight is 7 pounds and under I was concerned she felt like she was too skin and bones, I changed her diet , she wsa eating Wellness which is a good food, but was not eating as well as she should, I put her on evo for a while until they changed company's then I tried her on taste of the wild, the salmon flavor both made my dogs have a allergic reation, so I tried the fowl flavor and they love it. The latest recall on dimond foods DID NOT include California, and as far as any dog getting ill from the food no reports were indicatedm they did it as a precaution, anyway, Suzi weight jumped to 10 pounds, and I was very surprised. She and my shih tzu are within weighing oz of each other, anther surprise, I thought Miely was heavier then Suzi. 10 pounds is still small, especiall after they are shaved down. I think any dog under 15-20 pounds is small. Most importantly is that they are healthy and thriving.

| The size of your dog is determined by it's genetics. There are some smaller dogs that still carry genes to produce bigger babies. Unless your dog is obese there is nothing you could do about his size. They are adorable no matter how big they get. |

| Whew... these posts make me feel better. My Sasha is 9.3 lbs and was 8.2. She is muscular and I think skinny. I think as long as they are healthy and happy who cares. |

| Don't worry just love him. I would love a big ol' Yorkie! I don't think there would be near so many worries about easy injury from just jumping off the couch, etc. I saw the bigger the better, though as someone on YT said before, I don't think the world is safe with 50 lb. Yorkie running around!

| Taz is 2 in a half years old and he weighs 10lbs. I was worried at first because everyone I ran into would say that wasn't healthy. I ended up taking him to the vet to get him checked out and they he said he was completely healthy! I am in love my baby no matter how "big" and "abnormal" he is to others!
