| my yorkie, Buddy have had a few seizures. the first time the vet told me to just monitor him because he might not have another. about 2 years later he did. this time blood work was done and it was okay. he gave me valium and told me to give it to him if he get groomed or any other situation that could stress him. i hope he doesnt have another. it is very difficult to see my buddy go thru this. also the vet said if the seizures continue he will put him on phenobarbital. he told me that this medicine has side effects. pray for Buddy. |

| I have had my yorkie tested for everything by 3 different vets. She had surgery to see if she had a liver shunt, since the tests pointed to that. She didn't have an external shunt, but they said it was probably the internal kind that are like little vessels inside the liver and that can't be corrected with surgery. My vet called a specialist in Oklahoma City and they told her to prescribe the Keppra. This was previously used on humans, but now can be used on dogs. This is a lot safer than phenobarbital. The first few days, she was sluggish, but now is like a normal dog. Before she got on this medication, her seizures increased to several a week. It was heartbreaking to watch. Now, she is a happy, spoiled, playful little angel. I feel like this is an answer to my prayers. I am so thankful. We have her medication compounded in Conway, AR at a pharmacy for canines and mailed to our house. I hope your little yorkie doesn't have anymore seizures, I know how you feel. I wanted to share this information, because it has helped our yorkie and we went through a lot to find the answer. |
