| Petco accused of mutilating 2 dogs during grooming Kaneohe Petco is accused of mutilating 2 dogs during grooming - Hawaii News - Honolulu Star-Advertiser Seriously???? The update on this is PETCO states that it was the OWNERS FAULT because the dogs were too matted when they we're brought in. The victims attorney stated sarcastically "What??? Are we supposed to groom the dogs ourselves before we take them in for grooming?" They don't want to own up to their mistakes. Petco's big mistake was cutting the tail off of a dog that is owned by the wife of a distinguished (good but ruthless) attorney here in Hawaii. Things like this really scare me about taking Ahi in for grooming...anywhere. I'm lucky with the groomer I have, I love her.

| That's just horrible! I'm glad I groom my girls myself. They are anything but perfect but at least it gives me peace of mind. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | OMG . The ears are SO sensitive! We groom at home, not bc good breeders don't exist...but the few times we took Wylie to 3 different groomers...not one of them treated him right.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Wow, that's unbelievable, attaching the dog’s ear with tape? I guess we'll have to wait for the facts, but it sounds like the dogs were not groomed property by owner ether. You shouldn't bring a severely matted dog to a groomer unless you are specifically requesting this service, and expect to pay much more. Also, complaining about the “nails bleeding” is frivolous. If a dog owner has neglected the nails for too long, the quick will grow too long and a groomer can’t help but cut the quick, also, why would the dogs be “filthy” afterwards? They shouldn’t even be filthy when you take them to a groomer. The pet owner gets two thumbs down from me, and it makes me wonder if some of the other stuff is true.

Dog the Bounty hunter's wife Beth brings her terribly matted dog to be groomed at PetCo here in Kapolei right down the road from me. A friend of mine who is a dog trainer there says that she pays extra big bucks because her dog has long hair and wants to keep it. So it takes them a few hours to groom her dog. LOL

| We don't have a Petco nearby but I have watched the groomers at our Petsmart and I would never take my babies there. I don't think they have even been trained. I did people hair for 25 years and these groomers don't even hold the shears correctly. ( unless I am suppose to do it different for furbabies ) I have read so much on here about bad experiences I just do the best I can at home.

| I kind of think I would have noticed if my dog's ears had been taped back together after I picked him up from grooming..........don't ya'll? I mean if your eyesight were the worst and you couldn't see it, wouldn't you at least feel the tape on the ears before the tape loosens & they fall off? Or wouldn't you see or hear your dog constantly scratching & pawing at the tape on the cut ears? That makes no sense to me. If it is true, I can't imagine what that poor dog plus the other one with the cut-off tail tip went through! The more I hear of terrible grooming incidents - if even half of them are true - the happier it makes me that my dog is groomed at home.

| I don't care how matted an animal is you don't cut off their ears or their tails!!! What kind of fool does such a thing??? PetCo and the other chain stores hire people off the streets and do the training there at the store. Some of them get sent for a few hours a day to a grooming course but for the most part it is done in store. It's sad that people think they are handing their pets over to a professional when it is only someone working for minimum wage that cares little for the animals. Anyone can be a groomer. There are no regulations about training. A person who owns a shop must have a business license but that has nothing to do with the quality of the grooming or how well the animals are treated. Beware when searching for a groomer. There are some good ones out there but many should not be turned loose with a pair of sheers. My groomer grooms at many dog shows and is excellent at what she does. She has been doing it for 20 years. It is sad that anyone can call themselves a "professional" groomer no matter how little experience or training they have. |
