I don't care how matted an animal is you don't cut off their ears or their tails!!! What kind of fool does such a thing??? PetCo and the other chain stores hire people off the streets and do the training there at the store. Some of them get sent for a few hours a day to a grooming course but for the most part it is done in store. It's sad that people think they are handing their pets over to a professional when it is only someone working for minimum wage that cares little for the animals.
Anyone can be a groomer. There are no regulations about training. A person who owns a shop must have a business license but that has nothing to do with the quality of the grooming or how well the animals are treated. Beware when searching for a groomer. There are some good ones out there but many should not be turned loose with a pair of sheers. My groomer grooms at many dog shows and is excellent at what she does. She has been doing it for 20 years. It is sad that anyone can call themselves a "professional" groomer no matter how little experience or training they have. |
