| Gracie having trouble eating Hello Everyone! I just joined a few days ago. I brought home my female yorkie (gracie) on monday. She had some blood in her stool so I took her to the vet the next day and they found out she had giardia.Besides the blood in her stool, she was acting fine (alert, great appetite, playful, hydrated) So They gave her Metronidazol and sent us home. Since the meds she has totally dropped in appetite. I've tried softening her hard food with a little hot water, wet food, rice, skinless chicken, puppy nutrical, she wont eat much at all. The vet said to give it a day or two and then check back, but I am concerned. Gracie is 6 months old & weighs 3.2 pounds anyone have any suggestions on getting her to eat? |

| This medication is known to very hard on the GI system. Have you tried boiled chicken and rice? She may like this and it will sooth her tummy too. Hopefully others will have some suggestions as well. |

| I hope your babies appetite improves, we all worry so much about them especially when they are not eating. Praying for a speedy recovery.

| Hi, sorry to hear your baby has been sick. Have you tried rubbing a little nutrical on her gums? this will often stimulate their appetite. Hope she is feeling better soon!

| My girls always love a small amount of pure canned pumpkin when they aren't feeling well. I warm it up just abit and have given them up to a tablespoon. You could also try to mix a little bit of a jar of baby food with their food. She may like this better than just plain chicken and rice. I hope she's feeling better soon! |

| Giardia is caused by drinking contaminated water or ingesting contaminated fecal matter. The medication your puppy has been given is the first line drug that vets use in treating the condition. It is known to cause loss of appetite during treatment. There is another medication that can be used but since what you are using usually takes 5 days hopefully you can get her through without having to change meds. Make sure you clean any area where fecal matter has been with a strong disinfectant in order to prevent her from getting contaminated again. Hope she is feeling better soon and try to get her back on her regular diet as soon is treatment is finished. |
