| Puppy Pricing Ok. My sister in-law wants a teacup yorkie. Mya is around 6.5 lbs. She said Mya's bigger than the type she wants. She said she wants one around 4 lbs or less. Hmmm. Well, not sure how a puppy will even work for her and her hubby who works a lot. We talked about prices and the likes and it brought this website back to my memory. I found this website a while back on this business that specializes in selling teacup/toy breeds in Forney Texas (Texas Teacups). They have yorkies listed... morkies, maltipoo, poodles, maltese, daisy puppy, miki puppy, long-hair Chihuahuas, Tiny Chihuahuas... I've no idea what some of these are! What I found strange is the prices for these pups. I saw nothing under 1,000. And some went way up to over 3,000. Are they supposed to cost that much??? I never mentioned the business to her, but this business brought this pricing question to my mind. A mixed breed for 1,000 or more??? WTH... I haven't a clue how much a yorkie or even a morkie or any small breed is worth. (as far as pricing goes). Please enlighten my naive knowledge concerning prices for puppies (yorkies in general). Thanks. |

| A puppy mill dog isn't worth any money as far as I'm concerned because you will pay so much in vet bills trying to get it healthy. I recommend you read the http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...e-breeder.html |

I agree there shouldn't be a price tagged on sick pups. So I am to assume this business is a "puppy mill"? I'm sorry, when I think of puppy mill, I was thinking more like some facility out in the nowhere with a bunch of sick pups they got from neglectful breeders or so. Like a warehouse or something. I indeed need to read the "finding a reputable breeder" thread. I have only one yorkie. Mine is a mixed. I don't know if I will get another one or not. But if I do, at least I will have better knowledge next time. But even for a standard Yorkie... I'm clueless as to the price they are worth? She said she knew of a breeder that was selling pure yorkies f0r 700. I was in awe because of that site I remembered selling pups for 1,000-3,000.

Thanks, Nana. I'm glad to be here. If it wasn't for YT, I wouldn't know what I've learned thus far concerning Yorkies. About her joining... she knows I'm a part of the community. I doubt she join though. Maybe I should just print out the info from this community that she needs to know before she buys. Wish I knew this place before I got my Mya. I don't regret getting her though. She's my heart. I will always love her and never give her up.

| I wouldn't consider Texas Teacups a puppy mill but rather a back yard greeder - that's my opinion and they could very well be a puppy mill considering the amount of puppies they have listed. At any rate, tell your (was it your sister) that you cannot guarantee what size a puppy will be as an adult and you don't ever want to purchase a yorkie puppy with the words, "tiny", "teacup" or "micro" associated with them as these are not proper terms for Yorkshire Terriers. The AKA standard weight for a yorkie is between 4 and 7 pounds. I'm sure you can find other posts on here about the "teacup" thing but she should want to go to a reputable breeder who has a contract and health guarantee for the puppies they sell. Good luck to her and good luck to you on attempting to educate her!

| Well when you are purchasing you first should e looking for a with integrity. They health test, reed to the standard and care to make sure their puppy goes to a good home. Usually to purchase from a good reeder your going to pay 1000 or more. However you are purchasing a quality yorkie. Most of those reeders that reed the tiny yorkies dont do any kind of health testing and they are just supplying the market to the trend towards tiny yorkies which is an unhealthy trend. Same with the designer mixed reed reeders you will never find them doing any kind of health testing and their is no stardard for mixed reeds so they arent reeding for any standard

| Oh no. I'm not paying no thousand anything for a puppy. If it's that costly, I don't need one. I was looking a long time ago for a yorkie ever since I saw this very cute small yorkie with her beautiful red dress on. I loved her! I didn't know the owner though. I saw the photo online. So I always wanted a small dog. Was upset when my sister gave her Shihtzu away instead of giving her to me. I don't intend to buy anything from Texas Teacups. Just wondered about the prices though. |
