I have thought about getting those owls also. Wasn't sure if they would work. I will try that.

Mine only go out if someone is standing right over them. Never at dark, owls hang around.

This is why I take them to doggie day care 3-days a week, so they can go out and run and play while I work.

We also have hawks and coyotes and then last night there was a panther screaming in the field near us ( we live in the country) I was never as parinoid as I have become since becoming a yorkie owner.

My aunt's Yorkie was taken by a coyote from their front yard a few days before Christmas in 2010. They were watching out of the window for her to finish peeing and let her back inside, and the coyote ran up so fast and ran off with her that my uncle said even if he had a gun with him, he wouldn't have had time to shoot.

That is so sad . People may laugh but I literally pray over my babies every day that they be protected from preditors.

Welll just heard on the radio that there is now Coyote warnings - at Cherry Beach - which is a leash free beach area for our pups! I love going there with the dogs

And this is city too. I will have to change my swim times to co-incide with afternoons. Coyotes shouldn't be out and about then . I don't think and there will be lots of big dogs around ... including mine

"Over the top" is infinitely better than "six feet under"...and my choice, too!

I have predatory critters, too. The Yorkies are never out unsupervised. I normally always take Roxy my littlest one (4.5 pounds) out with Buddy (Golden retriever) she stays right next to him &me and she used to go out with Lucky too she always stayed very close by. Buddy pees around the property boundary as did Lucky daily. I also put their poop at the border of the yard to the woods.

Cozy (16 pounds) and Lucy (8.5 pounds) would give most predators hernias if they went after them.

We have a pair of hawkes that live in the woods behind our house.
The other day it killed and ate a bluejay right in our front yard.
I never leave my little ones outside alone..

My parents have Hawks in their area and my sister who doesn't live too far from them has both Coyote and Hawks.... All we have here in the city are opossum and rats. Some of the rats are bigger than the small dogs around here.

My house faces (the land between the lakes) so name your prey we have it, that is why all of my dogs are trained to pee pads..they sun in an enclosed deck
with wire and lattice with a doggie door to keep them safe...
