| Changed Dog Food Not Good Result BJ was very small when we got her and it is taking a long time for her to gain weight. The man at the pet store told me the food I was giving her, which she had been eating since we got her, was not good. He said she needs natural food. So, i bought a can of Nutro Ultra Holistic Super Food. He told me to mix a small amount in with her regular Cesar and add a little more each day. She ate it but after two days she vomited twice. She has not done that in the almost 5 months I have had her. I don't know if it was the change of food but I went back to her wet food and she eats Purina Puppy Chow dry food. I know that is not good either but they have to spay her soon and I would like for her to gain some weight. She feels so thin. She is active and eats well, no bowel or other problems. i don't know what to do. The vet says she is fine. Any ideas or suggestions? |

| Why not another dry kibble since she is used to dry anyway? I would gradually add the new a little each day and work up to a couple of weeks.. Thats what I did when I got Miss Priss, both of my dogs eat Blue Buffalo dry kibble and love it.

| Check out Nutro Consumer Affairs. I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. Some pups have more sensitive stomachs than others, maybe the change was too abrupt for her. Next time you switch, do it gradually or maybe with a bit less of the new stuff.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | This is something you should talk over with your vet, not a clerk in the store. Dogs don't gain weight for a variety of reasons. First, you want to make sure that your dog needs to gain weight, and secondly, you want to make sure that your dog doesn't have an illness that prevents her from gaining weight. In fact, with some illnesses, like liver shunt, increasing the protein content of the food could prove detrimental. I do agree, food changes should be made very slowly.

| If the vet said he weight is fine then I bet hes right she just might have a small frame and you don't want to make her over weight. I do think what you are feeding her is not good but maybe try changing the dry first and very slowly if she seems to have a sensitive. I wouldn't use Nutro at all. Try maybe Acana, Blue Buffalo, Fromm or wellness.

It has been my experience, store clerks or product reps stocking shelves in the store, are more interested in a profit margin and moving inventory, than what is best for your particular baby....besides he has NO idea on any health issues your baby may have. I personally do not like wet food.....I like hard kibble for dental effects, as well as the stools produced, but that is my preference, and what I recommend to my new owners.....I prefer small, solid, less frequent stools that wont knock a buzzard off a gut wagon with the odor! | |

| I can't add much input to the issue but just wanted to say I'm sorry for your losses. I hope you find a food that works for your baby.

| I have been feeding mine Fromm puppy since he came home. He has never had any problems with it, and from what I know about it they have never had a recall. |
