| I know someone has already suggested this but did you put an ad in your local paper ? as most All news papers will run found adds for free & that & the shelter is most often the 1st places people look when they loose a pet. I am so glad you picked her up or who knows what could have happened to her. Also I wanted to tell you that walking a yorkie with a collar is not recommended as it can damage their trachea, a harness is best for walking but the collar is good for holding their ID tags. |

| I'm glad you are looking for her home. I would make sure to check Craigslist Lost and Found and Pets section daily. Also check your local newspaper, go by the shelter and file a found pet report, and keep an eye out for signs. I would be absolutely devastated if either of my two escaped, so please do everything in your power to find her owners. I would say after about 3 months, you can consider her yours...

I have put an ad in the Birmingham news and a little circular that is in our area. My mom has given me an old harness of hers that I have been using. I only use it when we go out somewhere other than that she runs free in our yard (under my supervision of course ) I also check craigs list regularly and have put my own ad on there.

I have concidered that the owner might be in a situation where they can't look for her. There have also been some bad wrecks about 20 miles south of where I found her where there were some deaths. I have gone to that town also and put up signs in case she had belonged to someone in the wreck and the family might want her. It is also spring break so people might be out of town. I haven't given up hope that I might find her family. As much as I have fallen in love with this little girl I could imagine how much she being missed right now. I didn't know about the teeth. Do I just brush them with a toothbrush? Do I use toothpaste? I assume adult toothpaste would be to harsh but what about childrens or is there some for dogs? She has attached to me. My husband will try to hold her but if I walk into the room she is at my feet and if I sit down she is in my lap. In fact, she is in my lap now.

| I think you need doggy toothpaste. I'm pretty sure Walmart has it as do the pet stores. They also sell doggy toothbrushes and these little finger things that you can use. Sounds like you two are already bonded. I'm so glad you rescued her. |

| There is dog toothpaste at the pet store and small toothbrushes for small dogs and cats. Be sure it is soft bristled. Don't ever use human toothpaste but just the kind approved for dogs. It is usually food-flavored too and that helps them endure the brushing process. At first just put the toothpaste on a finger and "brush" it around on the teeth and then just slowly introduce the brush by touching it to a tooth one day, brushing once or twice day 2 and working up little by little that way until she will tolerate a full mouth brush. Don't brush hard and keep your sessions short at first until she is accepting of it - otherwise she will always hate it and fight. Work up slowly to full mouth brushing - that really is the only way to get them on board in a halfway happy mood. But a good vet check of the teeth and gums every 6 mos. is critical as you can't tell yourself necessarily if there is a problem or decay. Usually bad breath is an indicator but other things can cause that so a vet needs to check the mouth every 6 mos. or more frequently if your baby is one that is blessed with more oral bacteria than others.

| Awww, she is very cute. I can't believe no one has advertised her as missing/lost. I would call the Police dept & your local shelter to inquire as to how long you legally have to search for her owner before you can legally consider her to be yours. It is possible that her owner was a victim of one of the auto accidents you mentioned. Did you see the clip of the dog who swam up to a kayaker in the middle of the water? the dog was injured & they found the owners family. The owner had been walking his dog & was struck by a car & killed & the dog was thrown over the embankment into the water. It was a sad story but the family of the victim was very happy to have the dog back. |

That is so sad. I remember an accident site we were called to several years ago. A man and woman had flipped their pickup truck and were killed. Later as everyone was leaving the accident site a dog was spotted peaking out at the truck from the side of the road. It was later discovered that the dog had been in the truck but was thrown out of the way. It took several days to catch the dog because it was so terrified. The remaining family was very glad to get the dog back.
