| I'm so sorry this is happening! Strange little characters, aren't they? I can't offer any advice, but I'm leaning toward saying that I don't believe this is a yorkie thing. I've never had this happen with any little doggie! I hope someone comes along with a magic answer for you, though.

| Sorry but that's kinda funny I know it's gross too. I have no idea how to stop him from doing this. My yorkie Bella is 15 weeks old and we're doing the pee pad training thing right now. Well she knows to pee on the pee pad but poohing is a little bit of a problem. So when she poops on the floor i say NO and than I put her and the pooh on her pee pad, and tell her that that is where she goes. Well when I walk away and watch her, she'll be rubing her nose on the pee pad trying to cover up the pooh because she doesn't like it there or is mad at herself Anyways she'll end up folding her pee pad over her pooh to cover it up. It's kind of cute but i eventually pick the pooh up and flush it. She doesn't do that when she pooh's on the pee pad herself.

| I get such a kick out of these little dogs!! Sorry, I know it's a problem, but you just have to laugh at the antics the yorkies do! I could go on and on about the silly things mine have done over the years! Never a dull moment, (thank goodness)! |

| My Higgins was quite a poop-hider when he was a puppy! Like you, I would notice the poop, sigh and frown, and head off to get a paper towel to pick it up. When I got back, it was gone! Took several of these episodes before I was able to catch him in the act of hiding it under my bed -- along with about 25 other pieces of petrified poop I found there!!!! And here I thought I had this wonderfully housebroken puppy! Oh they are evil sometimes......but so cute you could just eat 'em up......and they know it! He has grown out of poop hiding, but poop to him is just something that happens in the course of his busy day......most times he doesn't even STOP to poop, but poops on the run and lets those chips fall where they may....... Poops outside 99% of the time, but hides one behind my chair once in awhile. Fortunately, his poop is small, rather hard and dry, doesn't smell much, and easy to deal with. |

Have you always picked up his poop in front of him. If you have then he thinks that it is a possession to control. Dogs use "control of possession" to establish social order. If he is hiding it, he views it as a high value item and is taking control of it. (especially, since he created it!) If this is the case, then you have more of a complex issue. He either does not see you as the "alpha" and see you more of an equal and is trying to assert his alpha position or sees himself as the alpha dog, and is entitled to this possession. Your best bet is to start cleaning his poop when he is not around, and make sure you get to it before he does. You may have to be diligent with this at first. Then you need to work on asserting your position more as the alpha dog, so that he understands that you control things, not him. | |

| Thank you for this advice...I have always picked his poop up in front of him because he went through the eating his poop stage and so i used to be SUPER quick in scooping it up,.....then when he started moving it I also tried to be very quick with it. I am gonna take your advice on the waiting thing, and as far as the alpha it may be so....I am not sure exactly hwo to tell..HE IS STUBBORN, but I am allowed to do what I want to him (topknot, brush, bath etc,.) without him fighting and I eat before him with him sitting next to me WITHOUT him trying to take any of my food, when I am walking around he tends to walk behind me, and when scared he will sit between my legs ....doesn't stuff like that mean I am the alpha??? THANKS for any advice

| Well, unlike the most common misconception that to "be alpha is to be agressive", most animals in the "alpha" position of the pack will be quite gracious and lenient, because they are secure in the knowledge of their position in the pack and don't have to be aggressive or assertive. Most dogs that are aggressive or assertive are those that are working themselves up the pack and are fighting for every ounce of control. So that fact that Maximus is laid back most of the time and allows you to do things, does not necessarily mean he is "not" the alpha. But it certainly does not mean that he is, either. I would ask you, where does he sleep. If he sleeps in the bed with you, where on the bed? at the foot or at your head? Has he always slept with you. Or did he earn the privledge to sleep with you? Who goes out the door first you or him? When going for walks, who leads the way? Does he work for his treats and dinner? (do you make him sit 1st before you give him one?) Where are his toys? Does he have full access of them. Or do you dole them out to him only after he sits for them? Are you able to take them away at will without a fight from him? does he demand your attention and you give it to him? Answers to these questions would help more to determine his status. |

| He used to sleep with me at the foot of the bed...he now sleeps int he living room, but occasionally I will allow him int he bed at which he sleeps at the foot of int he middle sometimes if it is 2 people. I pour his food in the bowl and he must sit before he is allowed to eat it, I have to tell him sit and then go eat....on walks I am the first out the door but he likes to run ahead...he will not stay behind, intead he runs intot he bushes and explores (I have treid to correct this), His troys are located in a toy bin and he gets 2 everyday toys..the others I keep put away and if we are playing he bring the toy back tpo me and put's it in my hand..he will sometimes tug at it and I will grab and throw it..but that is him being playful (or so I thought???)..he doesn;'t aggressively guard them or not allow me to have them..I can easily put my hands in his food and take things away without him resorting to grunting or biting. I do sometimes think he is fighting with me for power...but I try to conrol it as much as possible!!
