| Has anyone flown with United Airlines recently Hello everyone....I am currently in Florida and we are retuning home to Canada. We flew here on American Airlines as we have for the last 15 years, but just found out they are not flying into our returning city anymore. We are now scheduled to fly back with United Airlines. I am not off the ground yet and am so annoyed with them. We tried to book our seats closer to the front of the plane as we only have a 37 minute connection, and had to pay a 70 dollars more per seat. OK that was fine but there was no seat in front of us to put the dog's carrier under. I tried to explain this to the person I was speaking to and he kept telling me the dog had to go under MY seat. That is the first time in all these years I have ever heard of such a thing. Well after arguing with him I said never mind. I ended up with a seat almost at the back of the plane but at least there are seats in front of me to put the carrier. I then went on their website and it stated that the carrier has to go under the seat forward of you....so I was right. Oh yes then he told me I had to have a health certificate issued within 15 days of departure or she couldn't fly. Never in 15 years have I been asked for that. I have her health certificate showing she has had all her shots and her medical history which I always travel with but have never even been asked for it. This is my first trip with this airlines and I believe my last. Have any of you flown with United with your yorkie and did they ask you for your health certificate. I don't have time to get one now and am so afraid they won't let us on the plane. I looked back and American Airlines does not require one. I also printed of United Airlines IN CABIN PETS document from their website and it doesn't say anything there. It just says to call Reservations about international in cabin pet acceptance and service charges, but that is stantard policy when booking on line and travelling with a pet as there is no place when booking on line to pay ahead for the pet charge. Please if anyone has flown recently with United or even in the last year let me know of your experience....I am freaking out right now and need some answers from people that know....and it is not customer service at United. Thanks |

| My top two picks for travel with pets is Jet Blue and AirTran. I would print out the rules..have them with u. And also have a copy of your current shots on hand. I'm pretty sure if they wanted a health certificate, they would have clearly stated it on their rules and regs page.

| I agree he was probably just reading it off a monitor. I have travelled with a dog internationally for 15 years and have never been asked for a health certificate. They don't even ask for their regular records. I have flown american, delta, air canada and us air. You would think that if this a mandatory regulation someone at sometime would have asked. I called a vet here to get some information about this and they told me they can give me one for 71 dollars. This is ridiculous. I have all her paperwork from my vet that was issued in january showing she has all her shots and all her history and all he was going to do was look at her and sign a paper. Robbery. I am going to take my chances, i am not getting one. They should not have let me into the country if it is that important. I am just going to hand them my health record from canada and see what happens and i have printed off the in cabin rules...just in case. My travel agent said he had a hard time to understand english and didn't speak english that well either. I am wondering if it isn't a call centre for united in some other country taking their calls. I will let you know how we make out. |

| I've never flown United internationally, I have only flown United domestically and was never asked for any records whatsoever.

Yorkie Talker | I've flown jetblue for 11 years and have never been asked for any paper work. I just flew united from Corning, NY to Cape Coral FL in December with my then 4 month old yorkie and was not asked a thing. I do know you can't sit in the first row and have anything that you would put under a seat because there is no seat to put it under. I try to avoid united but it fly from my home airport and when I go alone its easier for my husband to drop me off on his way to work if all of us go we drive the hour asnd half and long term park to use jetblue. |

| We just flew with United in February on 2 domestic flights and they did require the health cert for us. They were super friendly and even let us be one of the first to board with our pups when we talked to the gate agents. You do not pay for the pet upfront with them because they check the carrier prior to your boarding to make sure it is within size regs and that your pet is good to go. When you check in you can do either the ticketing or the self check and just let the agent at the stand know about your pet. Also, when you check in sometimes you can change your seat. You may want to check online with your record locator info and see if you can adjust your seat on there. I have found I have better luck with getting seats I want that way instead of calling. I know our experience was really good and hopefully yours will be too. I would make sure you have the health cert just so you don't get turned away. I know I would rather pay the $70 now instead of a change of flight fee and the $70. I am one of those people who always say better safe than sorry. Good luck! |

| I've aways gotten a health certificate within 15 days of flying with mine. It's actually not a rule but a law. My vet told me that technically you are even supposed to have one if you travel interstate by car. Like the others, I've never been asked to show it but technically it is the law and if they want to they can ask. From this website: Traveling with Your Pet FAQs If you are taking your pet across state or international borders, a health certificate is required. The health certificate must be signed by a veterinarian after your pet has been examined and found to be free of disease. Your pet's vaccinations must be up to date in order for the health certificate to be completed. Here's another one. Anytime and every time an animal of any kind crosses any state line they need a certificate of health within 10 days of travel. I hope this helps, best wishes.
