First I want to say, I so glad mom and babies are doing fine, but I've got to admit, I'm shocked at your vets advice of it's okay to take her boating when she's almost due. Sometimes I wonder about vets! Even with calm water, boats can make the water choppy enough to cause a lot of bumping around. Not sure if the babies are early or you miscalculated the due date, but I hope you can keep a close eye on puppies and make sure that they all are all getting their fair share of food. Thank you! Yes he said it was fine, the water was smooth and our boat holds about 11 people so it has some weight to it. I am sure about the date she tied on the 19th of March we have done a lot of walking and she has always been full of energy I am thinking that has helped her with a smooth delivery. The babies look healthy and seem to be a good weight, I have not weight them thought I had another week to buy kitchen scales but they an appointment Thursday with the vet. I am keeping a close eye on them!

The runt did not make it, my heart and mommy's heart is just broken. He was not eating so I took him to the vet first thing this morning and he said to nurse it so I tried but by 3pm he was gone He weighted .3oz yesterday at birth, is it common to lose the runt in a first litter? Taking mom and the other 3 pups to the vet tomorrow for checkup and docking, but for now watching them like a mother hen.

I'm so sorry, I don't think it's common to lose the "runt", and there is always one smaller than the others, but it doesn’t mean that they will die. I think it's very possible that the boat ride induced early labor, and mom delivered pups before they were ready. This is where it’s better to speak with experienced breeders rather than vets when deciding if an activity is going to be too rough for a mom. I know some breeders severely limit their activities as well as the pregnant pups several weeks before due date. Praying that mom and the other pups are doing well.

Yes, I also agree 100% with this.....far too much negativity. What gives anyone the right to come down on someone else for breeding, especially from a very simple and straight forward question and then they get almost attacked by someone immediately.....not good is my opinion, especially when they know nothing except the question that was ask. This forum should be here to help and educate not to make some first time poster feel bad and then go away and never come back!! All you have to do is go through here and read posts and anyone can see what I am referring to here.
I have only been on here a week and I feel same way reading how rude some of the comments are back to people wanting to learn about their dogs. I am experienced and sometimes forget that we all had to learn at one time or another and keep learning is the key.

I don't want to be negative, but sometimes I believe people try too hard not to be negative, and aren’t educating anymore. I wish more breeders would comment on the position of taking a pregnant dog on a boating trip. This isn't about placing blame, what's done is done and Rebeccajo did the best she could with the information she had, but I'm really disappointed more people have spoken up. People are against taking a pregnant dog on a plane, and a boat is much bouncier. I would hope we could find some happy medium, education without condemning.
