I'm so sorry, I don't think it's common to lose the "runt", and there is always one smaller than the others, but it doesn’t mean that they will die. I think it's very possible that the boat ride induced early labor, and mom delivered pups before they were ready. This is where it’s better to speak with experienced breeders rather than vets when deciding if an activity is going to be too rough for a mom. I know some breeders severely limit their activities as well as the pregnant pups several weeks before due date. Praying that mom and the other pups are doing well.
