This forum should be here to help and educate not to make some first time poster feel bad and then go away and never come back!! All you have to do is go through here and read posts and anyone can see what I am referring to here.
I have only been on here a week and I feel same way reading how rude some of the comments are back to people wanting to learn about their dogs. I am experienced and sometimes forget that we all had to learn at one time or another and keep learning is the key.

For someone who has gone through what you described... all I can say is AMEN!! After I posted my first question and amidst the flurry of comments I got.. I really felt like my name.. a tiny Pack of One who found herself in the middle of the Yorkietalk Pack, shocked and pounced on just bec. I dared ask a question. Ofcourse there were a few people whose comments were a lot more comforting/welcoming than the rest. I would have gone away... tucked my tail between my legs and never look back.. but I stayed bec. I owed it to my yorkies to learn everything I can in as many source available to me. Besides, to get over the trauma, I know I have to dust myself off, lick my wounds and get up from where I was trampled on.

To the OP, your puppies are so cute and tiny. You sound like a really loving and caring yorkie mom/ grandma(?) hehe.. Sorry to hear about the youngest. Congrats and goodluck. I hope Desitny, Amos, Lily and Eli continue to grow strong.

Congratulations! The pups and mom are precious! I am sorry that one didn't make it...they get attached to your heart the instant they arrive whether born live and lost or stillborn...I know. You have my sympathies for the loss of the baby.

I do not know (or care...lol) what kind of boat you have...holding 11 people means nothing to me 'cuz my boats were always rated for 'weight allowed' not 'number of people' allowed...number of people only related to seating, cabin/cockpit space, and mostly to the number and type (weight and child/adult sizes) of life vests on board...safety concerns.

However, I have had an offshore (built for the ocean) cuddy on the North Atlantic when the sea was a sheet of ski-able glass, on small rivers and lakes which felt like hurricane waters, and in one lock that almost felt like you were caught in a vortex and being sucked down. Had to learn to navigate that particular lock better...lol.

I do not know whether I would have taken a pregnant dog at 57 days for a boat ride, but I believe the decision would have to be made knowing the boat...beam and LOA, especially...the wind and water that day, and accommodations for the dam. I have ridden on boats that glided and boats that pounded...and had the Philips-head screw imprints in my knees to prove how choppy the MR inlet was 'today'...lol I do not know whether it had any impact on the dam, either. I am just glad nothing went wrong while you were on the water...that was/is always my biggest concern when boating...and I wish the littlest one was still with you.

Take care!

This isn't about placing blame, what's done is done and Rebeccajo did the best she could with the information she had, but I'm really disappointed more people have spoken up. People are against taking a pregnant dog on a plane, and a boat is much bouncier. I would hope we could find some happy medium, education without condemning.

Default Thank you all and Update

Thanks everyone! I spent a lot of time researching the web and learning all I could before I breed my Destiny. But no matter how much we learn or even how experienced we are things can still go wrong or not as expected, that is life not only for our family pets but for each of us as well. It is true that a breeder whom has lots of experience behind them has much more knowledge and is better equipped to handle what may come. Hats off to you breeders! I have no desire to do what you do. I came here for help and to learn from your experience to see my Destiny and babies through. The vet did say it was ok and I don't think the boat ride hurt her at all. We had gotten a cabin and left her and the other dog in it on Saturday which she did not like at all lol. We did take her out on Sunday which was a very very clam day on Broken Bow Lake in Ok we also docked on a little island and took them for a walk which I mostly carried her being she was big with babies. Update: I weighted the puppies today (day 3) at birth all three weighted just around .4oz and today Amos was at .5 1/2oz, Lovely .6oz and Eli the piglet .8oz.

God bless you all!

Well, I am glad it isnt only ME!!! No "oopppps litters", but I usually have all mine placed before they are born, or within a couple of weeks afterward....now everyone wants 2# females....and if you do find someoone that wants a larger (breed standard!!) Yorkie, they want it for $300.00 - $500.00.... I have more than that invested in each of my babies by the time they are 12 weeks old! I WILL NOT COMPROMISE in my breeding program, or the quality of my babies and I wont give them away. Praying there is a major turn around in the economy SOON !!...will wait and see....I will quit before I compromise my standards.

This is where it’s better to speak with experienced breeders rather than vets when deciding if an activity is going to be too rough for a mom. I know some breeders severely limit their activities as well as the pregnant pups several weeks before due date. Praying that mom and the other pups are doing well.
Almost afraid to say anything for fear of offending anyone...I think nancy1999 is correct, the litter was born early and I personally do attribute it to the excitement of the boat ride...that vets "OK" astounds me......my mommas go into islation from other dogs about 2-3 weeks before they are due to deliver...about 8-10 days before they are due to deliver, they go into complete isolation from anyone but me...not running, no playing, no excitement, nothing unfamiliar or new introduced into her environment...just calming music, and soft lights and tons of holding and stroking all over and talking to her, massages.....I am not sure how much that runt weighed....I know you said .3oz...I think you may have meant 3 oz.....???? I dont usually loose them when they have reached that size....2 oz are a challenge and require tube feedings....I have only had a couple that were 1.5 oz or a little less....THOSE were REAL challenges and although they survived, it was VERY difficult and I almost lost my job over it!!! Good luck with your babies! Be sure they are all getting enough to eat.....

What is done is done. I would never take a pregnant yorkie that is due with-in a week or two on a boat. Maybe a houseboat that is docked ;-) My main reason would be if something went wrong and I am out at sea or even in the middle of a lake, how do I get to the vet's in time?
Also I too avoid stressors on the dog the last two or so weeks. Those last two weeks are spent with final preps. I make up meals and freeze for the family, make sure car is up to date on maintenance etc. Check all whelping supplies, replace what I need to etc. Set up whelping box. Check out heat lamps.

To the OP - sorry for your loss of the small one. Hope mom and remaining pups do well.

Happy Sunday, yes he was 3oz and would not eat I only saw her try to eat once the first day so I ran her to the vet the next morning for I kelpt finding her alone and not with the other pups. He said to hand feed her so I tried to get formula down her but by 3pm she was gone . I feel so bad but praying and trying to put it behind me. My grandson dug a whole and we put him in the garden with a cross. It is day 5 and the others are well this morning. Mom does not like not sleeping with me but she is learning she must stay with her babies, when she comes to my bad at night I tell her she was to go back, this morning I did let her in bed for a little while when the babies were sleeping

Thank you! Blessings

Congrats on the litter... So sorry you lost one... Just glad momma made it through ok, because with yorkies alot of them do not!! I too have had my own breeding mishap... Purposely studded my male for a pup for my daughter. End result was a singleton litter with a blue born. I came here for help too. Although I recieved alot of hurtful replies, I realized in the end that they were only replies of concern. I now have 4 furbabies... All but 1 (he just hit 6 months) are spayed or neutered. The baby will be neutered this next month. I now agree with leaving breeding to those special people who devote their lives to educating themselves, spending countless hours researching and learning to better the breed. I do hope you stick around Yt... You will learn so very much. And the support you recieve, especially in a time of crisis is priceless. I hope you find wonderful forever families for your babies! Keep us posted!

Kendra, thank you and sorry about your heart breaking experience I know your pain. I too have one other Yorkie and she also has been spayed but after doing so you blow up like a balloon and has stayed that way even though she does not eat much, did yours do that? I never had Destiny spayed whom will be 5 in November. I decided to breed her once before her 5th birthday. I have no plans to spay her after what happened to the other one but I will not be breeding her again, I will just put her pants on as always when on her cycle.

Daddy came to visit today and to my surprise Destiny was so happy to see him He respectfully stayed his allowed distant from the babies! I have not seen her long out of the house since Tuesday until he came today lol. She would run in and check on the babies then out she would come again

I only have one female... She is a super tiny girl and after her spay she hasn't gained any weight... She is only 2 1/2 pounds. Even more the reason we had her spayed as soon as my vet thought it would be safe considering her size... We sure didn't want to ever have any "accidents", because a pregnancy would surely have killed her. The only for sure way to prevent another pregnancy is having your baby spayed... You hear so often of uh ohs while they wear their little panties!! Maybe someone else can give you more advice on typical weight gain. My boy, Bevo, did gain about a pound after hus neuter, but he's still the perfect 6 pound size...

As for my breeding uh oh.... That is my "mistake" in my avatar pic. His name is Mack and he is a true little survivor. He is a reminder to me each and everyday of how fortunate we are and were. I would not give the world for him, and because of him I have learned so very much. Consider yourself very fortunate as well, that you have a healthy momma and 3 beautiful babies, but hopefully you too will realize it was just that, luck. I will never take a gamble on my furkids safety again... Breeding, carseats, healthcare, etc.... They depend on their human to make all their decisions for them.... Always make the best ones you can!!

Wow that is tiny glad you had her spayed or sure. I don't know why my Mazzy blow up, but she is very heavy and has a very hard tummy since being spayed. Glad to hear that did not happen to yours! Yes, we are very blessed to have a healthy mom and pups!
