Just ignore the little puppies being exterminated at your local shelter. They don't matter because you want to have some "fun!" Be a grown up, Bondi! Go to the shelter and justify producing more dogs while ignoring the ones who lose their lives daily. Go look in their eyes and tell yourself it just for fun and it's smart, too!

First of all it's "bondai" not "bondi" You could at least show me the common courtesy of spelling my username correctly. I have spent plenty of time around shelters and I can guarantee you that I have seen things that would make you puke. What I am saying is that if all the rules of common sense are followed and the puppies are predetermined to go to a good home then there would be no reason why someone should not have a litter of puppies. I also think one litter would be enough and both animals should spayed and neutered after the puppies are raised.

Just because there are a lot of animals in the shelters is not a valid argument. Many people do not like the idea of adopting from a shelter, they don't like all the attitude they get and all the hoops they have to jump through. The bottom line is that people have the right to do what they want with their animals within the law and some families want to have a litter of puppies, it happens everyday. Face it, people will continue to do what they want regardless of the affect it has on others.

You say that the dogs are predetermined to go to a good home. First of all, I've read many times where someone bred a litter that was supposed to go to friends and family and it fell through, so breeder wants advice on selling the dogs. A new breeder doesn’t know much about dog placement and these dogs may very well end up in the pound. Secondly, these people who are getting the free dog could have taken a dog that was in the shelter or pound, or they could also help support responsible breeding by buying from a responsible breeder. If a person can't jump through all the hoops that shelters and good breeders require, I don't think they should own a pet. While people may have a right to do what they want with their animals, we have a responsibility to try to educate those who can be educated. My dogs have given me so much pleasure, the very least I can do for them and their kind is to be an advocate for responsible breeding.

Yes, people have a right to breed their dog. So far. More and more laws are being made to try to contain the rampant increase of dog and cat populations. If a person wants a dog they should go to the pound and save a dog's life. If they can't jump through the "hoops" of being required to get the animal spayed or neutered and paying a fee to help with the financial upkeep of the shelter then they have no business having a dog. I see by a previous comment you made that you don't believe a person should be required to neuter their dog. People have a "right" to do a lot of things that are harmful to society. They have a right to drop out of school at the age of 16 or have babies when they are 15. No one can stop them. But it puts an added burden on the people in society that do what is responsible like finish their educations and earn a decent living. You can breed you dog but you are part of the problem not part of the solution to the overwhelming animal population.

Half of those predetermined owners will end up giving up there puppy over to the shelter because it was either to much work or they had to spend to much money when they end up with a puppy with liver shunt or bad LP or they decided to have a baby and say they don't have time for it.

Although I understand that if someone did not breed, We would not have a dog. BUT. We did not have Corky a month before we had him neutered. I did not buy my dog, But He came from a family who was moving, and he would have been in the pound if we did not get him. With his allergies (which are VERY bad) He would have been put down.

That means more pups go to the pound and get put to sleep......... I think that reputable breeders should breed and that's all. Breeders who know the lines of there dogs, have done health testing, know what there doing, and have a contract where the pup comes back to them if the owners cannot take care of the pup.

If we keep killing so many dogs each year in shelters, we may have to legislate something like this, including strict licensing of breeders, limiting dog ownership and requiring contracts by law. I would rather my tax dollars go for that than shelters that wind up killing the majority of dogs they house. Limitless breeding by any and all is producing more dogs than the population is able to responsibly handle. Nations that must kill millions of dogs each year need to regulate breeding since people often won't regulate themselves at all. Indiscriminate breeding of dogs by any and all amateurs who give away or sell dogs to anyone when hundreds or thousands of dogs are getting the needle every day makes no sense whatsoever to me. And our tax dollars are paying for the excessive breeding practices by having to support the shelters and buy the tools to kill the very animal so many say they love. Why in the world anybody who is not a reputable and responsible breeder would add to this worldwide horror is beyond me.
