| At the Vet's today... I was at the vet's office today picking up my furgirls meds (heartworm and flea and tick). A gentleman was waiting to be helped. He was in front of me. He told the girl that he had his dog in his truck and she needed to be put to sleep. She was 15 years old and the vet had recommended it in November. But he didn't want to let her go. He had realized that the time had come. I was so upset for the poor guy. I could just feel his pain. It was a horrible feeling for me. I felt so sorry for him. To make a long story short, I came home and have been cuddling with my girls. I should be doing housework and other stuff but now I just want to hold them. Point being, my hat is off to you that work in vet's offices. I just don't think I could do it.

| My heart goes out to this gentleman. I know what it's like to try and prolong a beloved pet's life and then to finally get to that moment where you know you have to let them go.

| I certainly can feel for him. We have put off Tina's time too. We thought yesterday and then when ahead and bought her diapers at Petsmart and I had thought this past week, maybe this morning. We just can't either one do it. Dh is as upset about it as I am. So, yes, I feel for anyone working in a vet's office and that poor man. I know thats going to be us soon. ugh!!! |

| That has to be rough for anyone having to decide that, but we all may have to go through that at one time or another. It breaks my heart to see people hurting over their furkids..

| Thank God for Doctors, Nurses, Techs and all who care for the sick, injured and dieing. And Thank God for the good ones who comfort the family too.

| Oh my, we have been there and it's so very hard. The emotional hurt is almost unbearable. Pat & I both agree, it's our place to see to their best interest and not be selfish just for ourselves, when we know it's time to let them go. I can say, you will know when it's time and you will reach inside and give them the last gift of love you can give...seeing to their comfort.

| That happened once when I had one of mine at the vet. A lady came in carrying her little poodle. The poodle was screaming in pain and the lady was crying so hard. I recognized the lady and sent her a card. It really saddens the day to see someone saying goodbye to their beloved dog. Hugs to you!

| It is very sad. A very thick wall starts to go up if you are in it all the time though. It doesn't really become easy, but there has to be some separation or people at vet offices would go under it all the time.

| I went through that in Dec 2009 with my 15 year old little guy. You live with a loyal friend for so many years. It's a horrible decision to have to make. Your so close to the situation that sometimes you just can't make the decisions as you should. |

Words right out of my mouth, and I'm glad I am there for and with them at that time, It is so hard letting go...I've been there 9 times and each time was just as hard as the first, and I remember each and everyone. All of them were beloved pets, but I don't know if I could ever love one as much as I do my Mini - we have a very, very, strong bond...Don't get me wrong theres none that I wouldn't have or wouldn't do anything for, but Mini is my heart...

| Stories like this leave me so queasy. Does this mean the vet thought the dog need to be put out of its suffering over 3 months ago and the man just couldn't do it then when needed??? Or does it mean he was warned in November that the dog would soon require euthanasia and he brought the baby in when he realized the time had come and pain or other serious symptoms were now present. My mind just goes wild thinking of a pet suffering or having to live on pain medication because of a human's inability to cope with the loss. Not saying that was the case here but when you hear these things - my mind leaps to my sister's former "friend" whose little elderly chihuahua suffered terribly for 6 months because her owner "just cannot bear to be without her and I don't think she really can feel pain like we do"!!!!!! The little thing had bladder cancer and a huge inoperable tumor and couldn't even walk she was to old and ill! I think I remember my sister telling me this woman said she gave the little thing Tylenol or aspirin or something when "she acted like she was hurting". I kept telling/begging/cajoling my sister to call Animal Control but she never did! And I didn't know where the woman lived and my sister wouldn't tell me(early dementia on her part) or I would have! Thankfully, one day my sister told me the little baby chi had finally died. I do pray that this was not a "can't cope" case, that the poor dog is now resting in peace and the owner finds some healing and peace when possible.

♥Trained by my pups♥ Donating YT 500 Club Member | My daughter worked at a vets office for a few years. And it is hard to see a old dog be put to sleep. But the worse for her were the people that came in and said we are moving or we just don't want them anymore. Here's the money and just put them to sleep and do whatever you do with their bodies. That just killed her. She would suggest rehoming and they said no this is what they wanted. So very sad. When strays came in she would try to get them into a local no kill shelter or find homes. Not always possible but her and the groomer always tried.
