| retires her toys... sorry if this is long, but i need some suggestions... So meesha loves to play with her toys, however after a certain amount of time she'll get sick of them and retire them, i tried hiding the ones she retired and giving them to her again after a few weeks as if they were new ones. she still knew they were not new and wanted nothing to do with them.shes so smart she knows they are old..i tried it again after washing them so she'd think they were new, still nothing, then i tired them again after rubbing bacon and other meats on the toys lol, still she wanted nothing to do with them? she wont bite them touch them and turns her head away when i try to get her to play with them... however when i buy her a new toy she gets so excited runs around all hyper throwing it around, barking and growling at them, just having a blast, however after a few weeks those toys she loved so much become part of the retired group of toys. Finally she exhausted all of her toys, she has so many i could not justify buying new ones, the only toy she'll alway still play with are the cat tunnels i got her, those have never been retired however after a certain amount of time playing with them she'll get bored and look at me and bark until i find her something new to play with, or play fetch or tug-a-war with her..if i dont do this, she'll get depresseed and lay down all day looking like a floppy lost puppy.Buying new toys seems like such a waste when she has so many, i tried some things suggested on here water bottle with treats, she has a fear of plastic or rubbery toys for some reason any toy that is plastic, i;ve bought her a few and she barks at them until i put them away..i can't keep buying her new toys she has wayyy too many as it is, any other suggestions of what i can do to get her to play with her old toys, i'm at my wits end with this, or maybe some suggestions of things to make to keep her entertained... i love how she plays with new toys, it keeps her so occupied, happy and healthy puppy..i just wish she wouldn't retire them.. |

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | As long as mine have toys with the eyes or stuffing still intact...their interested. Plus what dog doesn't like new toys... just stop buying new ones and play with her with the old ones. Seriously... Who has the upper hand here, you or her? She cant buy them herself..lol If you are worried about her getting bored and taking it out on your furniture, shoes or base boards that try a KONG. That should keep her busy for hours. Or if you want to save some money, buy the wal mart $1 toys or clean out someones stuffed animal collection. Garage sales are also a good place to buy cheep stuffed animals.

| Oh my! Let's see, first, I would wash all her toys with a bleach solution 5%, and I wouldn't do the meat rub thing on them anymore... too much bacteria growing wild, lol. Maybe try putting an old squeaker toy in a sock for her. Does she have the IQ toys that are more of a challenge? They make a puzzle type toy too that may keep her interest longer. Then, I would become very familiar with my local dollar store, and buy a few dollar toys there when she feels the need. You could always donate the old toys to your local shelter or rescue.

| thanks i havent tryed a kong yet maybe that will keep her entertained, yes i just bought her a whole new set of toys, i have the really rellly old ones paked up to bring to the shelter on sunday, but i seriously can't keep going and buying her new toys everytime she decided to retire them LOL,i jsut spent a fortune on all new ones last week.. and i never thought of the bacteria by rubbing bacon on them LOL, oh my... i will wash them with bleach solution.and yes i know she has a bit of the upperhand i always cave in when shes putting around the house looking like a lost sad puppy because shes sick of her old toys, i always keep waiting thinking she'll play with the old ones if she gets bored enough, but after a few days she still dosen't , i think she needs more of a challenege..i will look for some puzzle ones, any good suggestions on these types, i saw a set with little wood blocks but i'd be scared she'd eat them because she can be a little vaccume sometimes |

| I like the idea of donating extras to a shelter or rescue...that way it won't be a "waste" if she decides never to play with them again. I personally wouldn't buy toys from the dollar store because they are almost always made in China. It's soooo hard to find toys that are not...I have such a problem with it because my dog is toy crazy and it's difficult to find things I know he will like that will be the right type and size AND not be made in China! I got even more afraid the other night when I saw an recent news story of a dog that became really sick after getting a new Petco brand toy for Christmas. The toy tested positive for a bunch of really nasty things and Petco recalled them....but it makes you wonder how many more toys are on the shelves with the exact same thing! Another thing you could try is putting the toy in a laundry basket full of your dirty clothes for about 12 hours. She'll be able to smell your scent on it after and that might make her want it more.

| Instead of getting rid of toys put them away for awhile then bring a few out a time so they are like new toys and rotate toys around

| Gaigingirl, thank you for the heads up! I know that when I'm out shopping, a lot of the time I'll just impulsively grab a toy or two to treat my boys with. This info has made me realize that I'd better check it out before putting in my shopping basket! Actually, I think I'm just going to de-stuff some of the toys that the boys already have, wash them and re-squeeker them myself! |

| My DD and I sew so we have lots of scraps, but if you have an old tshirt or fleece sweater you can recycle and make some great toys by braiding/ weaving strips cut from the clothes. You can cut off a sleeve and put a small empty water bottle knotted inside. Between homemade toys and yardsale baby toys I spend very little and the two little dogs always have "new" things! |
