Has anyone used this to control barking?

My moms rescue Sammy isn't to terrible of a barker but when we went to a hotel for the first time with him be was barking at every sound but he lets off hints hes gonna bark either the ears go up or he squeaks first so when he would do that I all of a sudden would start singing made up songs to get his attention it worked but at the time we where hungry so I was singing about pasta salad lol I'm sure other people in the hotel thought I was crazy when they passed our room

No offense, I don't need to run to my vet every time my dog sneezes. I'm an EMT and know that lemon burns, know it won't cause your eye to fall out, know eyes don't grow back, and/or won't kill your dog. I also know how to hold my dog still enough to put saline solution in her eye. I've done it many times.

I've seen a lot of your posts here on YT and you seem to think you know it all. NO I'm NOT calling you a know-it-all. I'm just saying, you seem to think you know most everything. Just take a step back and know that not everyone does what you do, and don't make them feel bad for doing it a different. That's all. You may not use cologne, hairspray on yourself, non-tearless shampoo, etc. but others do. I use d@mn expensive salon human shampoo and conditioner called Kenra on Baby and her coat is silky, skin is fine and she smells beautimous!

I know I don't know it all but I have had lemon squirted in my eye before and it hurts and I would never want that to happen to my dog just because I was trying to squirt it in her mouth because she was doing what dogs do. I will admit if it was a tiny bottle and you were actually walking over to the dog opening there mouth and squirting it into mouth is different then sitting on the couch and squirting them hoping to hit there mouth. What I imagined was the second one not the first and I still don't know which one she was referring to but if it's the second one that can be painful to the dog if gotten in there eye. I imagine you are careful when bathing her and don't say to yourself I don't have to be careful because it's just shampoo and won't kill her. Anything you know can cause pain you should try to avoid because no one really knows how much pain it causes them because they can't tell us. I don't even let Callie put her head out the car window unless she has her goggle things on because I have a friend who is going blind and it's scary for him so I could not imagine something happening to a dog and making them go blind and not understand it. I try to prevent Callie from having any pain I can and squirting lemon water at her isn't the best way to do that.

Well I highly doubt she was getting it in her eyes.......... I read a few articles saying deodorant isn't toix to dogs just might make them thirsty but I'm sure you new it wasn't toxic before you used it. On a black cord it's also a great way to see if the deodorant goes on clear and won't leave marks on black or colored tank tops lol

I know with small dogs many people don't think it necessary to train their pets but it really helps to have your dog know basic commands. Sit, stay, come, stop! There are so many "training experts" these days that have strayed far from the basic training every dog needs and that may even save a life.

Someone did mention distracting the barking pet and that is good. A dog that knows that the mom or dad is actually going to get up and correct the behavior is a dog that is going to listen the first time you say stop or no.

Do you ever go out in public and listen to parents telling their misbehaving kids to stop doing the behavior but not doing anything but threatening them? Those kids are not taught the basic respect or discipline every kid needs. Dogs are the same. They need to know certain words and how to understand what the owner is telling them. The word "no" means nothing if you are not teaching your pet what action should go with it. Just as a dog that is told to stay is not going to stay until her relates the word with an action.

I'm sorry if someone already suggested this..but I use a coffee can with some coins in it. When they bark I shake the can. The sudden noise of the coins stops the barking.
Might wanna give it a try.

This is where I fall on the matter too....this can work for some very well. I don't feel comfortable w/ physical interventions (sprays, shocks, hitting, intimidating), but there are lots of other things to try, like the can/coin thing.

Yes, I just give it one shake, just to divert their attention. If they bark again then I shake it again.

Well squirting when just water is not as terrible as the other things you listed with it. We tried the can of coins when Callie was a puppy and it really scared her and now loud noises still scare her. A year ago I read in DogFancy how they are saying that using the can of coins and other loud noises to reprimand your dog has made many dogs become fearful of loud noises. Now not all but some and that is something to think about before decided on a loud noise to use to train by.

I understand, I even understand using cans with pennies or a squirt bottle with water ONLY in it- I think if you really work on your dog you can train them the good ol fashion way. If it is a must you use something to help that is fine, but don't put something in there that could burn your pets eye's that's not right in my mind.
