Presently we have an account for Jasper our Yorkie and Cocoa our Miniature Dachshund. I'm taking Jasper for his last set of "Puppy Vaccinations." I'm going to ask my vet for his opinion to continue what I am doing, set up something with his office or go with a Pet Insurance he recommends.

When I took Sheldon for his 1st visit after we got him the vet recommended pet insurance for at least the 1st 2 years of your dog's life, you get to know your pet's health and then you can decided if you want to continue.

I have health insurance,my children have health insurance and I feel it is the correct thing to have health insurance for our furbabies. Mina was only 10mths old when I had to take her to the EC. I still put cash in a fund for the upfront cost at the vet or EC.

Also, what I want to make sure if one of my dogs got sick and if our vet asks for the money upfront for example $5,000.00 and the "Pet Insurance" for example I am with will send me 80% of the amount after. It all depends on your vet apparently. I'm going to talk with him. Before I met my husband both his dogs went to this vet and he was very happy with him. This was before he met me. He didn't have Pet Insurance. If my vet says no problem, "I don't have for the money upfront," your insurance company will send it to me." Then I would lean towards a good "Pet Insurance" he recommends. Reading here it is expensive for both our dogs and there is a deductable it is $62.00 a month. I am putting away $50.00 a months for both my dogs. I'll give you an update soon what I decide to do.

| The controversy continues.....I understand from my vet that many vets prefer to not be asked to fill out the insurance paper work - if the do not complete it correctly you may not get paid - also some vets bill for the paper work they are asked to fill out - so check with your vet. I researched all of this when my vet did NOT recommend pet insurance. Seems like all the vets want their money up front.

Embrace I agree with the poster who mentioned Embrace. We've got both the insurance for sickness/injury and the well-dog insurance - the latter only for her first year. I hit the limit with Gracie's spay, but at the end of the day, well-dog insurance saves me about $100 the first year. Not a lot but better than zero. I'm dropping it next year - only wanted it to cover year 1 expenses. But I'm keeping the sickness/injury. Embrace is very responsive and reimburse quickly. For those who are unhappy because vets want their money up front, I think that's normal for an industry where most people don't have insurance on their pets. Not like medical doctors for people where most people do have insurance.
