| ![]() Sadly the smaller the gene pool the more likely health problems are to happen. Pure breed dogs got that way because people choose what dogs were alowed to mate. My Noah was never sick untill he was 17 years old. He got skin cancer. It was treated and he lived to be 18 years 7 months. He never was treated for any illness before the cancer.

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | ![]() I have had dogs here for the last 10 years and they all healthy. So I've not had a sick Yorkie or a sick Biewer or a sick Havanese for that matter. What a lovely thing to be able to say. |

| ![]() Our little guy just had bladder stone surgery. When the doctor looked at the xray he found that Mickey's right hip/femur was deteriorated. The vet was suprised that he didnt have any problems walking or was in no pain....Yesterday, we had to take him back in because his incision wasnt heeling. Turnes out Mickeys body was rejecting the sutures. He's in really bad shape now. He will be staying at the vet for the next 4-5 days. We are hoping he pulls through. He is a rescue. We think he is around 4 and we have had him for 1.5 yrs. He only weighs 3.7 lbs. |

| ![]() My oldest yorkie is 6 years old and none of them have been sick. Though I had one break his leg a few years ago from falling off the couch but with surgery it was an easy fix. They are very healthy and run around still playing like puppies. I think Nancy has a very good point. Getting one from a good breeder can make a big difference. I carefully picked mine out and so far no health problems and hopefully it will stay that way.

| ![]() Uni for the most part is healthy. She has pancreatitis which was her worst sickness so far. She will be 5 yrs next month. She also has LP grade 2-3, in addition to her off standard color and very fragile and thin coat. We now know we got her from a broker and not a breeder as she had posed as, and we are lucky that we ended up with what we did. I know others who went through liver shunt surgeries, kennel cough, pneumonia, etc. Quote:

| ![]() Well; I'm not one of the lucky ones so far. Lucy has LP, MVD, and now bladder stones for which she just had surgery. But I kind of had the 'heads up' that she might not be in perfect health before I got her - so I really can't complain. I've been pretty luck with all my dogs before Lucy. My little Maltese was in perfect health (he did tear his ACL whilst jumping) up until he got doggie alzheimers when he was about 11. My Westie has skin allergies which require some special shampoo and the occasional trip to the Vet and steroids. Ringo's also had one bout of gastroenteritis after getting into some chicken bones. But my little Lucy has been to the doctor more than myself in the past 2 years!
