Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | Post Spay Surgery Day 1 Mornin' Y'all! I hope you are having a great morning so far! Aymee and Katie Scarlett here and wanted to check in. As many of you know, Katie Scarlett had her spay surgery yesterday. She was out of it most all evening. I slept in the den with her last night so she could have easy access to her potty pad. I slept in the floor right next to her so I could keep an eye on her. I think I woke up every hour checking on her. She got up and tee tee'd twice. I heard her eating some of her food around 3 AM. She didn't eat much, but she did eat a few bits before going back to bed. Then at 8 AM she woke me up with a healthy 'good morning' bark. She is doing really good today! Her eyes have perked up a lot and she looks a lot happier than yesterday. I have the baby gate up though and am keeping her in the den with me today. I am going to keep her confined so she can't get too crazy. She has played with her toys a bit this morning and chewed on her bully stick. She is now sitting up on the couch with me bundled up in her blankie. I have her puppy stairs set up so she can get up and off the couch very easy. I did notice her licking at her incision area once last night. I need to get a cone, but forgot to pick that up at the store yesterday. So for a temporary solution, I cut the arm off an old cotton jacket of mine. The sleeve of it is acting as her 'turtleneck.' LOL. Then I cut it as long as she is, cut 4 holes for the arms and legs. I put it on her and it covers up the incision site, but she still has access to what she needs when she has to go. She now cannot lick at the site until I can get a cone. She may look a little silly, but I had to do what I could in the wee hours of the morning. I'll have to snap a pic so y'all can see. I'm sure you will chuckle like I did. But hey, it works. Any advice for today from you guys who have went through this? I am bringing her water every hour or so. I know she doesn't feel like getting up all the time. She is still resting a lot. I brushed her hair just a teeny bit last night, but no where near the incision site. I did not want to hurt her. Plus, they shaved her around that area pretty good. I don't want her to get matts in her hair though. Should I try a grooming this evening? Of course being very careful. I hope I'm doing everything alright. But she does seem to be on the mend! Yay! Sweet girl!

| You can try to put a shirt or something that covers that area as well, or some jammies.. I know sometimes that works! I would just let her rest. Maybe later today you can try brushing her a little- if she gets too squirmy I would stop. You can always boil her a chicken and give her some Pedialight. When Pnut had his neuter that’s what I gave him- he ate it up! Seems like they feel better when they get a nice full tummy. Sounds like she is doing good- Peanut didn’t really even move for a couple days, I swear he was being really dramatic, but I wasn’t judging him- I wasn’t the one that got my baggies cut off!!

| She sounds like she is doing really good...I am always amazed at how fast they mend. She will be back to herself in no time. Bless her heart, she is precious.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I am so glad she is doing so well! Sounds like your doing everything perfectly. What worked for me after Taycie's spay was using baby onesies. I just bought the newborn ones. I loved them and she never was able to lick the area.. and they are super cute As for grooming.. I still groomed Taycie.. I was extra careful around her incision.. I think you will be just fine! I just didn't use any sprays for her coat to be extra careful nothing would get into it! Loves and Hugs for KS!

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | a couple of baby onesies, I gave my mom 5 for Ruby who is being spayed as I type, it keeps them off the surgery area, you just have to keep up with her potty so she does not wet them.. hugs, |

| Aymee, did you see my post on your last thread, it's about the cone, my girl was freaked out by the cone more than anything, you may be on to something with what you made for her, if you read my post I tried to do something similar only LOL with duck tape. The licking and picking at the incision in my experience was the worst part, the better they start feeling the more the wound must start to bother them. about a week after surgery I did not duck tape her outfit together and while I was not watching she managed to pick all by one of her stitches out, I want rushing back to the vet who say wow she healed pretty quick, just leave it alone and try not to let her get to active, so that little bugger dodged a bullet and took her own stitches out early. BTW I looked at your scrapbooking web site, LOVE the photos of the stuff you have done, you are VERY talented, do you sell things like notebooks, address books, or boxes already put together, and if so do you have any dog themed things. (sorry did not mean to get off track from the topic) |

| see you girls are all so smart about the onesies, but did you need the premie ones, Lola is not a mini yorkie but the smallest baby ones were to big, I even bought a doll that had one on, but that turned out to be to small, the premie would have been perfect only on short notice I could not find one near me, I really don't know why someone does not market a surgical recovery suit to vets, instead you get this cumbersome cone that freaks most dogs out. |

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | Thanks guys for all your well wishes! Katie Scarlett is still doing pretty good. She just got up to tee tee. Used her pad like a good girl! Yay! She then chewed on a toy for a minute and is now back up on her favorite spot on the couch resting.

Thank you too for looking at my scrapbooking blog! How nice of you to do so! I do sell custom made items when I get orders in. I just did an order for a baby girl birth to one year album. I did about 50 pages for a lady. It was really fun! I love to scrap for others because I get to do my favorite thing...scrappin'....and I get to give it to someone when I'm finished. It makes my day to know they are happy with what I made them.
