| Do you keep your pups until 12 weeks? I could not imagine. The attachment by that time would be horrible. I let them go generally at 7-8 weeks. I make sure they have their shots and eating okay, and all that. All breeders here where I live let them go at 6 weeks of age. I bought both of my dogs when they were that age. The only thing I know about ancestry is what my girl dog's parents looked like, both were blond, and the male, his parents were tiny, well so I was told, but I never met the parents for him. I know generally what they will look like, because my family kept two of her past puppies. They are light colored and standard size. Well about what all yorkie sizes are in this area. It doesn't matter, I decided to not keep one. It's just difficult to see all those cute little turks and not want to keep them all! What fun that would be huh. |

It might really change your perspective on a few things. It could really aid you, your dogs and the pups you are producing. Just a specific note many breeders list 12 week as the minimum time they will release pups some have said 14 weeks is their standards others note the development and go as far as 16 weeks (of course longer if they don't have people already on their waiting list or pre-approved homes waiting for the pups). Also giving full vaccinations (more than one at a time let alone any at that age) that young can be very detrimental to their overall health.

I'm not breeding anymore. My dogs are getting neutered and spayed. As much as I love having these adorable little pups running around, I think it's enough that she had 3 sets of them. I will read up on the breeding section, but by the time I let them go, the mommy doesn't feed them anymore. And no matter what age they go, they are still going to be rotten as can be. I kept one for my son until he was about 12 weeks and my son decided he didn't want him, so I sold him, and cried for a solid month. I loved that puppy to death but he was mean. He liked to tear the strips of wallpaper off of my wall, chewed places out of my curio cabinet, tore the fabric off of the bottom of my couch, totally ruined a clock/picture frame I had on the end table, he'd tear the tile right up off the floor, he was rotten to the core! He also had a bad habit of chasing the cat out of the room, it was funny as little as he was. Last edited by maryalice40; 01-19-2012 at 05:58 PM. | |

I mean temperament testing is an equal part of breeding quality as conformity, health & genetics right?

| A puppy that age should not be allowed to have free run of your house. Didn't you confine him when you couldn't watch him? A puppy or older dog that is bored will become destructive. You can't let a little one like that just roam freely if your not right there with it. Big dog breeders have often sold their puppies earlier than they should because it is so much work for them to clean up after all those puppies. The pups usually survive alright although it is very difficult for them and the new owners. Small dogs like Yorkies can have more physical problems than a larger breed when leaving their mom's early. A six week old puppy hardly has it's teeth in and is not properly weaned. The stress of moving to a new home at that age is very hard on them. Puppies at six to eight weeks old still sleep a good deal of the time so it should not be so difficult to give them some more weeks to mature before selling them. |

YTCA states 12 weeks is when puppies should leave the breeder so your mean puppy was the age he should have been leaving you. It is a good thing you will no longer be breeding. Pups/dogs are a lot of work to raise properly.

| I'm glad you want to spay your female after her third litter. I hope you aren't looking for a replacement 5lb. female to breed. I don't want to be mean in any way, but I thought this thread was a joke at first. I'm sure your puppies are absolutely adorable, and I'm so glad they are healthy, but my goodness, you have so much to learn.
