What im curious about is why as puppies they are black and tan and then they change their color ??? what should i be looking for in a good breeder ? Donating YT 30K Club Member | Welcome! Yorkies can change colors several times in their life. I have 4 and 3 are varying shades of black and tan and 1 is silver and gold.

| I would be really worried bringing a puppy home when you will have one dog recovering form LP surgery. Callie almost 2 months ago got LP surgery and its very important they stay still and rested after surgery for 8 weeks. We couldn't even have my moms yorkie Sammy come over and still cant until around the 19th and that is if the Orthopedic Surgeon says it ok.

| I have one that is still changing color...tan clearing and was a 'champagne blond' now getting darker tan, and one that is 'golden' (also a 'champagne blond' but getting darker tan) and cannot make black pigment in hair but was born 'black and tan' then lost all 'black' according to previous owner, but you can see in her skin the blue color. There is a 'greying' DD or Dd gene that changes the black to blue...dd (dual recessive) results in a black, non-greying coat color. (If I correctly recall.) It can take several years for the entire coat color metamorphosis. It's really cool...color genetics. It's cool in cats, too, especially calico...if you like that sort of thing...genetics is cool, IMHO. But, the best part is the look of the dogs themselves...each is an individual, and they are all so gorgeous! Good luck finding a breeder...and the new love of your life!
