What im curious about is why as puppies they are black and tan and then they change their color ??? what should i be looking for in a good breeder ? (where we bought Luna from not happy she has luxating patella and gettin surgery this month supposingly was a reputable breeder showing and champions ! ) just would like to get as much info on the breed from proud owners or breeders on this sight . Welcome! Yorkies can change colors several times in their life. I have 4 and 3 are varying shades of black and tan and 1 is silver and gold. |
Thank you for answering me Patty do you have pictures of your babies , I prefer the darker colored ones is there anyway a breeder can tell you if the puppies will be what color adult? Anna |
I would be really worried bringing a puppy home when you will have one dog recovering form LP surgery. Callie almost 2 months ago got LP surgery and its very important they stay still and rested after surgery for 8 weeks. We couldn't even have my moms yorkie Sammy come over and still cant until around the 19th and that is if the Orthopedic Surgeon says it ok. |
he llo there we are in the process of searching for breedes and looking to buy in june , july , august . Can i ask you was it horrible the surgery how did it go we are so nervous her surgery is this month the 23 !! we have bought her an x pen she will be in for recovery she has grade 3 on her left and grade 2 on her right we are perating left one thank you Anna |
I have one that is still changing color...tan clearing and was a 'champagne blond' now getting darker tan, and one that is 'golden' (also a 'champagne blond' but getting darker tan) and cannot make black pigment in hair but was born 'black and tan' then lost all 'black' according to previous owner, but you can see in her skin the blue color. There is a 'greying' DD or Dd gene that changes the black to blue...dd (dual recessive) results in a black, non-greying coat color. (If I correctly recall.) It can take several years for the entire coat color metamorphosis. It's really cool...color genetics. It's cool in cats, too, especially calico...if you like that sort of thing...genetics is cool, IMHO. ;) But, the best part is the look of the dogs themselves...each is an individual, and they are all so gorgeous! :D Good luck finding a breeder...and the new love of your life! :) |
