| The only real way that I know to determine what a yorkie will look like is to see the parents and if possible other pups from the pairing. My breeder specialized in dark coat yorkies and sure enough thats what chloe is Also the average weight of a healthy yorkie is between 5 to 7 pounds. A very small yorkie 3 to 4 requires special care. I would really caution against selecting a smaller than normal pup and would be wary of any breeder that states they specialize in "teacup yorkies" Yorkies of average size are already really little dogs. Hope this helps |

I would strongly recommend not getting a pup that is under 12wks old and weighs at least 2 pounds! The coarse and fluffy coat as you should know is not the correct coat for a Yorkie; no reputable breeder will knowingly breed for this. If you really want this type of coat and coloration; if this is really important to you, then you need to look at much older pups to see what their coat is. Six months at least or older.

| Please do not get your puppy until 12 weeks. I would be worried about how great the breeder was if she is not keeping the puppies until 12 weeks because reputable breeders know they should be with there mom until 12 weeks. Also you need to make sure that the parents were health checked. I really also think that sense you have 5 kids it would be better to go with a larger yorkie that is slightly less fragile.

| Good luck on your new puppy. Like the others have stated... She really needs to be 12 weeks old before bringing her home. Tiny ones are hard to care for... My boys are 5 and 6 pounds... A great size... They are both still very small. We have a little girl that I am hoping will grow more. She is 6 1/2 months old and weighs 2.9 pounds as of yesterday. We watch her very carefully as she is so small and fragile. I read you have children... How old are they? If they are young, you definately need a bigger yorkie... Again, like the others have said also, the parents an help determine the color... But yorkies are a surprise...you never really know what they will look like at adulthood! As far as the hair.... I've never seen a wired hair yorkie.... Bevo has a good coat, doesn't tangle hardly ever... Mack has a super cotton like coat... Very soft... But tangles easily... This too is genetics... Make sure you are buying from a good breeder... Beware of backyard breeders and puppy mills!! Good luck!!

| Puppy Mill Baby Since she's from Missouri and the breeder is willing to sell the puppy at such a young age I'm sure she's buying it from a Puppy Mill. Please Google Puppy Mill and watch a video about them before giving money to the breeder. |

| its me First of all i want to tell everyone thanks for advise and help. I am new to this which is why im here looking to you guys for help. Just to put minds at ease my kids r almost 9 and one is 13 im engaged and the three children who i love as my own r even older. My kids have a guinie pig and showed me that can be responsible and gentle which i understand with a little pup walk around a floor and alot of feet traffic it is kinda a nervous thought. As far as a puppy mill , I was invited to the ladys house she has 3 different types of dogs and the room they was in was heated and clean there was cages inside the building where pups was at but there was mats down to keep their feet from being hurt and the moms had large runs in the back of building and came in and out to their pups. I have always been one to want to see the place and parents ect. I know with dogs in my past i got them about 8-9 weeks so if u guys says 12 ill ask her to do so. I want to ask you guys this i was offerd a yorkie pup that was born from parents who r inside as house pets would i be better going that route even if the pup was small? The pup i was wanting is almost five weeks and weighs one pound this other pup i have been offerd today is 8 weeks and a lb. But the family seem great the mother n father yorkie is beautiful and healthy looking please offer advise |

Linz I commend you for doing your research up front. After all you want a healthy long lived Yorkie. The above article which is found in our library, that is the second row down on the home page when you come to Yorkie talk. This article will let you know the questions you should ask, and other things that are clear to see with a reputable breeder. IMO - Yorkshire Terrier Breed should not be housed in outdoor buildings with runs to the outside. This breed is not built for the cold; and unless I am mistaken Missouri gets some pretty cold weather. Breeding three breeds and perhaps cross breeding as well? I pass on that breeder Second breeder - with dogs/pups in the house. Too little information for me to tell either way. Read the article first. Then you may have answers for your own questions.

| I am a bit confused by one of your questions. You said that you had been offered a pup that was 5 weeks old and another that was 8 weeks old. Are they being offered for you to take at 5 and 8 weeks of age? Also you mentioned that one of the pups was small. If this is the case I would again strongly recommend that puppies stay with their mom till at least 12 weeks. Yorkies need more time with mom in order to do well. Bringing a pup home to early can result in health issues. Have you read much on the specific health needs of yorkies? For example pups are prone to hypoglycemia when they are young. This issue alone can be life threatening and its really important to know the signs. Also many of these little ones will require dental surgery to remove baby teeth that fail to fall out. They need regular grooming (my little girl is brushed daily) and regular dental care (Chloes teeth are brushed every night) as they are prone to tooth decay. Yorkies can develop health issues such as my little one who has luxating patella which could cost me $2500.00 if she winds up needing surgery. I am not trying to scare you off of getting a Yorkie just making sure that you know about the cost. The 1200 dollars spent on buying Chloe is dwarfed by the costs so far of taking care of her, of course she is worth it One other thing to mention is that Yorkies are stubborn with regards to house training. It took me a year to house break Chloe and I know others who have never fully house trained! Gratefully little dogs make little messes lol but this is something that you will want to be prepared for. I hope that you find this info helpful |
