| Harness/warm or waterproof coat It's very cold & very, very wet here at the moment. How do you solve the problem of them wearing a harness & a waterproof or thick warm coat? I have several coats but none of them have a means of clipping a lead to the harness if it's under the coat( via a hole or some such) & they won't fit over the coats. They all seem to be made to wear with a collar. Has anyone solved this please? |

| If you know a person with a sewing machine, then maybe you can get him/her make big enough buttonhole in the coat where the d-ring is on the harness. This way you can use the coats you already have over the harness. I know there are coats and shirts that are already made this way. You can also attach a d-ring (ring where the leash attaches) directly to the coats if you think they're secure enough to double as a sort of walking harness. |

| I always put the harness on first and then the coat over, as I don't like the way harnesses look over coats, and I want to be sure the harness is secure enough that I could pull my pup up by it if need be in an emergency. I always specifically look for coats with holes for harnesses (and make my own dog sweaters with holes for them too). I did buy one coat that was just so cute I couldn't resist, and it didn't have a hole for the harness in it, so I had my mum make a button hole in it with her sewing machine. (I have a sewing machine, but straight & zigzag are my limits and I wanted it to look neat as you see it on top of the coat.)

| I use the Buddy Belt when he wears coats/sweaters and just put the harness over top of the sweater since the BB requires no adjusting, etc, it's simply like a belt. Sometimes the things I get him have a little hole though - in fact, I think most of his stuff does. So that way I can put the harness underneath and have the d-ring come thru the hole.

| Callie has a buddy belt harness that fits really well over her coats but some of her coats have a harness hole so she will wear her harness under her coat.

YT 1000 Club Member | I've had to cut a little hole for the "D" Ring in several pieces for mine. I tried putting the Harness over the Coats, and it just wasn't all that well fitted, and made me afraid it would slip off if there was a tug o war out there for some reason. I'd rather take the trouble of cutting the hole, and know the Harness is secure.

| Thank you for all your replies & suggestions. I can't honestly say that I've seen coats for sale over here that have a hole in the top to access the harness or a D ring on the coat so I think I'm going to be digging out my old sewing machine that I haven't used for years to make button holes. You seem to have a lot more choice regarding clothing than we do. |

Have you had a look at petlondon.net ? Take a look at all their wonderful jumpers and coats etc. - if you look closely, most of those have a small slit for the D ring to go through, some gorgeous ones on there!! Sally + Harry x | |

| Such a cute website?! I often get quite carried away!! Whereabouts in England are you? When I was in Pets at Home the other day, several of the coats in there had D ring slits (about time too!! ). Sally + Harry x |

| We do have a lot of clothing options here in the states. I still have to make our dogs their own things because everything is too big for my daughter's Chihuahua. She hovers around 4 lbs, and she's a tall lean girl with a smooth coat. My Yorkie has hair to help pad her outfits, and she's a little under 4.5 lbs so she can fit in a few ready made things. Good luck making your buttonholes. If your machine has automatic buttonholes, then it should be easy. It might help to use a fresh needle so it goes through all the layers of the coats. |
