| Hello and welcome to YorkieTalk. Have you tried taking his poop outside and putting it where you want him to go poo? Also when he goes potty where you want him to go you should praise him and give a treat. Be very careful if your letting him run outside off leash and in a non fenced area because many dogs have gotten lost, hurt or killed this way. When Callie was a puppy and started showing interest in the trash we got all new trash cans that you have to step on the petle to open and is nice not having to worry about her getting into something that could have something in it that could make her sick plus it looks neater lol. I personal don't like Iams food and would keep him on what he was being feed for awhile.

Was kind of a funny deal this AM. We got up, and went outside for the morning ritual. Came back in thru the garage. And Andy poo'd on the rug in the garage. He was acting like He did good, all excited, doing the territorial dance (all 4 paw scratch) I laughed inside, goofy guy! So I picked the droppings up, and We went back outside while I guided Him verabally. Not scolding, but trying to re-enforce his 'better' behavior. I think He's getting it. We're moving closer to doing it outside! I'm actually pretty amazed at His intelligence. He's had a LOT to adjust to in a very short time. Shelter life for 2 weeks, shots updated, nuetering, new home and parents/siblings, new diet, etc. Props to Him for doing as well as He has! | |

| He did better yesterday, but another episode in My sons room this morning. We'll keep trying. He will get it eventually. He's definately stubborn. Last night, I sat down at the computer desk, and He wanted to jump up on My lap, per usual. I turned the chair so He couldn't jump up. I was hoping He'd get on my wifes lap. But He sat there looking up at Me for about 5 mins. When I looked down, His eyes were closed, and He was swaying, almost ready to tip over. He was almost asleep. I was jsut about laughing out loud as I picked Him up and set Him on My lap! Last edited by zedhead; 12-29-2011 at 02:30 AM. |

| Sounds like he really has his heart set on you. Who ever does the most with the dog will win the heart. Yes, he will get it eventually. Maybe just stay out a little longer with him and get him to run around a bit more. It just takes some dogs a little longer to get the urge. He has been through a lot. Looks like you got a gem. |

| Welcome! A couple comments...have you tried closing the door to your son's room? Seems like an obvious solution, but then again...??! Second...here's something I learned recently. When introducing a new toy (I'm assuming Andy's toys are new), it helps to rub your scent on it. I put Dori's xmas "hide-a-squirrel" in my dirty clothes hamper before introducing it to her. Only problem was I totally forget about it, looked all over the house for her present and only found it days later when I pulled a pile of clothes out of the hamper to wash. I need to make more post-its!

| I'd keep the door closed, but our son is one of those people that doesn't think about things like that. He jsut gets what He wants, and moves on. Andy is doing better. No accidents yesterday! It's just going to take a little time. He just loves it outside. And He LOVES to go for a ride. I'm going to have to invest in a car seat right away. If I put on a coat, he's right there all spazed up. He KNOWS someone is going somewhere. Thanks for the good idea on the toys/scent. I'll try that. |

| He sounds like a fun little guy. Your right. These things take time but he sounds like the kind of guy that will want to make you happy. It's learning to communicate these things to him that takes time. |
