New Yorkie. HELP

Relax... very normal behaviour. Remember he is a young puppy and needs A LOT of sleep. Seems normal for this breed to be picky eaters, too. Oz hardly ate anything when we first got him. He still has a sparse appetite; he's a nibbler rather than a gobbler! Your pup needs time to feel comfortable in his new surroundings and needs time to build trust with his new family. You were ready for this - he was not! His whole world is different. He needs to learn new rules and lots of new smells. Give him space and time and love.

thanks alot guys, i called the vet he said he is just nervous and shouldnt be worried about it, actually he is getting so much better. I was just sitting on my chair and he suddenly tried to reach me and he just chilled on my lap. Then i decided to put him down to see whether he really wanted to be with me or no and yes after 2 mins being down he tried to reach me again and hes now on my lap. Im so happy!

Oh good! But, he still needs to go to the vet for the well puppy check. Are you doing that still? And do you have Nutrical just in case?

Hi, actually he just got vet checked before i got him and he was scheduled to go back a month from prolly last week for his booster,examination and consultation. is it normal for him not to bark at all?Thanks

Exactly - he didn't know he was moving home!!

Harry was kind of 'in shock' for the first couple of days (mind you, I would be, coming to live with me.... !!!) I'd say get him checked anyway, keep Nutrical to hand - and enjoy yourselves!! Oh, and welcome from the UK, too!! Sally + Harry x

I think when you are new some of your posts have to be approved...this will stop after a while.

Nutrical is a high calorie supplement...it is used to help dogs if they are having low blood sugar problems. It's really important to have on hand when you have a puppy. White corn syrup can work in a pinch if you don't have Nutrical. Your vet may offer something under a slightly different name, and that is okay too. Please read up on low blood sugar so you can know the signs and what to do.

You really only want to use the Nutrical if you think there is a problem. I know some people give a little to their puppy each day if their puppy seems like they may need it, and that is fine. You wouldn't want to overuse it as it could lead to diabetes, but just a little here and there is okay I think.

And, it's just a small amount...your vet can advise you, or the packaging will.

With respect to your question, if he isn't eating much I would give him a little nutrical. When Teddy was a puppy he was very tiny and I gave him a little bit of nutrical everyday...especially the days when he wasn't eating much. I wish you lots of luck with your new puppy!! Do you have a picture?

I don't get the whole nutrical push. I understand why you should have it on hand, especially with very small yorkie pups, but I don't believe it should be given if not needed.

Brakbrak...I'd ask your vet whether he/she believes nutrical is needed for your puppy.

While I've had nutrical on hand when I got each of my pups, neither of them had issues with low blood sugar, so I have never had need to use it.

I always have Nutrical around. They even make one formulated for puppys. It is a must for our house. Annie is 7 months now and hasn't hit 4 pounds yet so we really try and watch her. Some days when she is extra sleepy or shaking we give her a pea sized amount and she perks right up. Congrats. on your new baby!!!
